Hi to all,

My husband, daughter and myself are moving to Adelaide by the end of the year. We have our visas at the ready! We just need to sell our house and we're off. Thats easier said than done at the moment isn't it!

Anyone with any advice on schools, state or private around Glengelg, West beach, Brighton areas will be great.

Does anyone know anything about "handover" files from doctors and dentists etc....

We cant wait to leave the great British weather.

Thanks in advance

Paula, Andy and Shannon :)

Handover files. Some docs need it, some don't. We wanted to bring medical information with us for specialist treatment the girls were having in the UK but the NHS would not release the information to us (ie scans and xrays). We could have written reports but only the info that had been sent to the GP.

At the GPs, we could have a brief summary ie date of appt, why and treatment given for free or pay for more detailed info eg copies of letters etc.

I would recommend it if you are having any treatment done and may require it in the future. It helps. Otherwise I would not bother with the hassle.

You can go to as many docs as you like here.

Brighton High School is clearly in Brighton. It has a decent enough reputation although there are better. Some will tell you that it is worth buying a house there for, others will disagree. Only you can decide after you have had a wander around.

Sacred Heart Senior College is in Somerton Park (between Glenelg and Brighton) and has a good reputation. Stunning from outside. No other info but that.

There is St Marys primary in Glenelg (don't quote me on the name right now as I am not sure without a map) which is lovely but has a wierd policy or two. Namely if the Japanese teacher is away for a day, give her timetable which features R-yr 6 to an High School teacher from England who has no idea whatsoever about Japanese, and then tell her to spend the day playing games like Hide and Seek with the classes.

Thanks for the info Libby, Shannon (11) has just started dental treatment for a brace here so hopefully our dentist will be kind and let us take all the records with us!!! I understand dental treatment is very expensive over there.

Hi Paula and welcome to PIA.

Don't get me started on house sales. :realmad::biglaugh:

Here's getting yours shifted and with you new life. I keep hearing that it only takes one viewer to sell a house. Well thats one more viewer than we ever had. But then there's more than one way to swing a cat.;)

Good luck with everything

Pete

There is also Westminster college in Marion,(near Brighton) which is a coed r-12 private. Has a good rep but like all schools there are some who will say nay!

Also in Glenelg there is St Peter's Woodlands which is an r-7 anglican private primary, feeds a lot of the big name privates but some do go onto Catholic and public highs.

Immanuel College is in Novar Gdns which is about 10 mins from Glenelg, there is a primary r-6 and a high which is 7-12. It is a private lutheran and also has a good rep. Very sporty, all kids have to do at least 1 sport and 1 cocurricular activity each semester.

Sacred Heart senior is yrs 10-12, before this the girls go to Marymount for 6-9 at Brighton and the boys to Sacred Heart Middle at Mitchell Park for 6-9. The catholic primaries are cheap privates and go from r -5. If you don't want single sex schooling for middle school you have to send them to Cabra yr6-12.
