New from Newcastle UK to Adelaide/Brisbane

Hi everyone, I'm new to this.I am currently in the process of applying for a spouse visa as my husband is desperate to go home.He has lived in the UK for the last 10 years!!.

My husband is from Perth but we don't waant to move there, too near nightmare family in-laws so it is either Adelaide or Brisbane.Any one have any views on which one is better for familys, we have one son who is 4yrs.

Can't help with your question as we are still in the UK and have never been to Oz. Just wanted to say welcome to the site and you will gets loads of help on here so don't worry. We are going out to Adelaide on 14 Aug for 2 weeks to have a look around. My hubby has got a job there, and depending on Visa processing times, we are hoping to move there for good in Feb/Mar next year.

can only give advice on Adelaide as not been to Brisbane, our best friends emigrated there 5 years ago [ young family] and love it so much , they have not and do not want to return to the uk , they say its so relaxed and family friendly over there. We are hopefuly joining them soon, as we visited adelaide 2 years ago and was pleasantly suprised how nice it was. Maybe you could do a reccie to help you decide, Good luck whatever you decide as there both going to be so much better than the uk.

We moved from newcastle (more precisely from Whitley Bay) to Adelaide last december with our 3 kids (and dog!)

 

Having never been to brisbane i cant help with a comparison but if you have any questions on adelaide give me a shout.

ive been to both ..now living in adelaide..the answer is what ever your looking for!! there more going on in brissie IMO but we chose adelaide for the laid back way of life..adelaide has everything you want (on your doorstep) what ever you pick you cnt go wrong!!

It looks like you are not getting many "proper" answers, but plenty of people from NE in the same or similar boat as you. We are from Chester-le-Street, also with a 4 year old. After reading as much as I could, I think Adelaide should be good for us.

Adelaide: Hot, dry and no water. Brisbane: Humid and less water than Adelaide. It is cheaper to fly overseas from Brisbane to most places like Singapore, Fiji and NZ, when it rains in Brisbane it rains hard and the storms are excellent if your into that kind of thing, the casino is a lot bigger than Adelaide and of course there is the Gold Coast down the road with all of the theme parks etc but then you have to contend with the tourists and schoolies. Adelaide is a lot smaller and quieter, you can drive through the city in 10 minutes, in Brisbane a lot longer and if you miss the freeway exit or enty well who knows.

Hi - we're also going out to Adelaide from the NE because, we've noticed all the houses in Perth are really close together, quite small and expensive:confused:

 

We want a house that we'd have to be millionaires in UK to buy!!!

I think we maybe Adelaide bound as OH seems to want to go there more.I have been to both on holiday but being on holiday is alot different from living somewhere.I don't know how my son will cope with the weather as he is so used to the good old northeast weather of rain, cold more rain and even colder.( although it is sunny today makes a change;))

Hi we were originally from Wallsend and moved to adelaide just over 2 years ago. Hubby has just got a job on the Gold Coast so we are moving there in Dec 08. Adelaide has been a good starting point but we are ready to move on. Have found adelaide to be a bit boring (for kids), got 17yr old, 7 and 5yr old. Plus we didn't realise how cold it got!!!! Been up to Gold Coast and kids like it much more, more to do for them and weather a lot warmer!
