Newbie, saying hi, n help

Hallo evrybody:),

We are hoping to be in Adelaide in November; assuming all goes well.

A few q's if you don't mind; i'm new, be nice pls!!

 

1) 457 visa; got the job offer in May, written confirmation in June; had the medicals on recruiters advice in June; applied for NBSA registration. All, i think now sorted....... but reading some of the posts, i am sure i have gone a about f .....

 

2) Schools; 3 kids will be at school; all academic and 2 are sporty (plus), the other is a gamer! Can anyone recommend a good school? State, not private

 

3) Nice neighbourhoods; was in the city back in April, didn't see anywhere "rough" or "seedy". Thinking West Beach/ Henly; or maybe out in Flagstaff. Hallett cove was recommended, bit cheaper, big houses....

 

4) Clubs etc for the stay at home hubby (3 months of golf then he will be bored and get work; haha). Big on golf, cylcling, pro-am tiddly winks, you get the picture?

 

5) Decent rental agents

Schools : Adelaide, Unley, Glenunga, Henley high are all academic plus sporty. People seem to be pleased with Reynella East and Hallett Cove, but schools are very subjective and what suits one family may not suit another. Are your kids in Primary, High or both? Most of the popular high schools are zoned, with strict boundaries. Are there any specific sports your children are into, cos some schools specialise in a sport eg cricket or soccer or netball.

 

Choose your school then your neighbourhood due to the zoning of high schools. You are right most areas here are ok, some more than others and again it's a subjective view. All those suburbs you mentioned are fine.

 

If your hubby is to stay at home then he will be too busy to need clubs what with all the cooking cleaning and running the kids around

 

Decent houses are usually let through decent agents. Check out www.realestate.com.au under rentals. Most of the main companies list here.

I agree with Rach, pick your schools first. Catchment areas are important. Used to live at Flagstaff Hill. So did my Mum and Dad. Nice family area. Like your husband, mine also has visions of endless golf etc. whilst wife goes off to work (I'm also a nurse). Rach is right we need to make sure they get their priorities right!

I'm writing to welcome you as we have found this site very good. I also wanted to ask how long did it take for your nsba to come through as I applied in June and still waiting. The OH is doing my head in as he passed the vetassess and is eager to apply for the visa but this is still some way off as i still then hvae to apply to the anmc.

I am one of those pleased with Reynella East High...my eldest is about to do options in a state school which she couldn't do at the private school I teach at.

 

Hallett Cove is popular down south. A realestate agent told us last year when we first arrived that just by looking in the next suburb away from the coast (ie inland) you could save $20-$30k and add no more than 5 mins to your journey to the coast.

NBSA; OMG... started the application in April!!! Thought NMC had sent everything, but no, they forgot my enrollment training, so after much faxing, phoning etc, that went on Friday; I haven't used ANMC, agency told me me there was no need unless i was applying for several states!?; ANMC don't actually do registrations, only the state boards, so hopefully this is the case!!! If not, well more shillings will be spent:arghh:. This should happen this week, NBSA said they were waiting only for the enrollment syllabus to complete the assessment; not holding my breath.

 

Darling, there is ALWAYS time for golf! Andrew will make it so, hahaha. He is better organised with household chores, but like most men, not quite as thorough. This will, naturally, facilitate the sporting activities, exploring and meeting ppl...

 

Coast; well being from the Mersey region, i have to see the sea! I am really looking forward to a decent beach, tho'.

 

One more question tho, folks; My eldest is 18, he needs to find a job, interested in mechanical things (muck magnet); what is the job scene and the social scene like for a 6ft8in dark haired, unsporty, mosher???

We are in process of applying, I am awaiting my NBSA registration, I applied at the end of May and was advised it would take up to 4 months, mailed them recently as my references had heard nothing to get a reply telling me to refrain from contacting them, did you ring NBSA?? We are applying for 175 visa and need my registrations to be complete before I apply so still waiting......

 

A few of us got together recently and met for a bit of dinner and loadsa wine in Liverpool recently, I think we did mention that we might try and get together once the kids had gone back to school, look out for a post soon. The photo/avatar is of us at the Rocking Horse in Liverpool.

 

Where do you work? I am a midwife, I work in Manchester and occasionally bank in Liverpool. Where are you going to work in Adelaide? Would be nice to keep in touch with someone on the other side as you will be in Adelaide a long time before I get over there. I am planning to work in Adelaide Womens and Childrens.

I have a job in Calvary Hospital, North Adelaide; just a short skip to the WnC!!

I was there in April, the hopsital looks really nice; clean!!

I did contact NBSA, they weren't rude, just very insistant that i wait! Yes, they have had the money, but like NMC, are fervent "manana" types!

We are hoping to be there soon; house sold, packing under way,bank sorted etc; it's just a waiting game now!

I applied to NBSA end of May 2008 and was advised that it would take up to 4 months to complete this part of the registration. I have done the modified assessment (which is NBSA first then ANMC 2nd) if you have done the same the 2nd part (ANMC) seems to only take about 4-6 weeks to complete. What visa are you going on? We are going for the 175. Where do you work and live in Liverpool? We are in Kirkby, I am a midwife and I work in Manchester and do some bank in Liverpool as well. Good luck with everything.

 

We had a meet up recently and were thinking of getting together again once kids have gone back to school, look out for a post if you are interested, we went to the Rocking Horse in Aintree last time.

 

There is a website where you can check the progress of other peoples visa and skills assessments timeline, you can register your details so we can all see how long it is taking. When I look at the timelines registering with NBSA seems to take the longest of all the Nursing and Midwifery Boards. Maybe its like everything else, just depends on who is dealing with your application as to how long it takes. The website is www.beupdate.co.uk

Hi Jane,

my hubby is from Liverpool and my second child was born there. We were living in London for about 2 1/2 yrs after we went back to England and would go up to Liverpool every fortnight for the weekend. I'm a nurse, didn't choose the teaching path as there are too many of them in my family already!Back then though I wasn't a nurse either, was a stay at home manager.

 

Always had fun in Liverpool, used to go to a few of the local seedy nightclubs and the local pubs. We didn't have any babysitters in London, so I used to be able to getout a bit when we went up and of course, the kids were doted on.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm a nurse and work in Liverpool. We too are applying for the 175 visa but I haven't done the modified ANMC as I need the NBSA registration first. Have a job offer at the RAH in surgical.

 

To all that met in the Rocking Horse we did go but were outside in the sun but didn't find you all. Now seeing the photo's if you meet again we will be there and at least know some faces.

Wow, it seems half of Liverpool is in Adelaide, lol:biglaugh:; I did notice an EVERTON shirt in one pic; my lads will be pleased, and it's one thing less to fret about.........; or at least wanting to be!

 

I quit the NHS mid June; Band 7 Recovery nurse; just had enough of the whole thing; and the move basically is taking up more time than working will give me!!!!

 

This may have been premature, given the "whenever" demeanour of the board, and NMC, and not yet having a visa; but i have done it now so:p

 

I will keep an eye out for the posts on the gatherings, but may need a nudge in the right direction. Are they full of people wanting to escape??? Willl i need to bring my own shovel??

Just a short reply, I live in West lake Shores which is trully lovely.

My son is in the catchment for Le Fever, Seaton and Henley High.

 

All great schools to look up.

He's at West lakes primary, we chose this area as the school looked so good.

We made a great choice.

The Kindy is also fantastic, they have four different class rooms, 5 teachers and lots of outdoor activities within there park.

I have just reviewed the application form for NBSA; i sent every peice of paper related the training etc; copies of the qualification certs etc and paid the requisite dollarage....(120). The form points out the anmc assessment, but only if you have already applied for it!

 

Checked the anmc website; it clearly states you should not apply for assessment if;

1) enrolled nurse

2) overseas educated holding a PR visa and;

3) Nurse or midwife with working holiday or temporary visa!

 

I think this means, if you have sent all the documents, fee atc, the board will pass on the requisite to anmc??? The $20 fee is only applicable if you have had assessment with anmc first!!

 

So, the thing is; now the board have all the documents, and sate clearly in their e-mail to my agent, they were only waiting on one transcipt to complete..... will that now take 4 weeks:confused:.

This would seriously cause a problem for me; we have to move out in 8 weeks!!!!

hi hun just wanted to wish you well, i would ring the nbsa to clrify. I am here on 136 so i did the anmc skills assessment first then applied to nbsa not really sure how it works other way round to be honest. But my anmc took 12 weeks to come back, they are reall helpful if you ring em x good luck

I have done the modified assessment, I have registered (nearly) with NBSA first then only have to complete the modified assessment with ANMC, it works out a bit cheaper. I am really fed up at how long it is taking to complete, I am really impatient!!! Let me know if you want to know anymore than that, I am by no means an expert, I got lots of help from Trakki (Tracey) who is now offline. Will help you anywayI can.

I can't be of any help with areas or schools but wanted to say Hi. We have been researching and asking all sorts of questions about schools and nurseries, areas etc.... We have pretty much settled on Flagstaff hill or surrounding areas, it sounds great for families. Saying that we have never even been to SA so could be talking complete rubbish.
