We are a family of four living in Secret Harbour, WA having moved from Staffordshire, UK on 1.12.06. We are Warren (39) and Donna (41) Harris and our children are George aged 11 and Olivia aged 8.

Although we are enjoying living in WA, we are finding that the wages offered and cost of living here means that we are unable to enjoy the standard of life we had in the UK, considering that house prices have recently gone through the roof in this area. We are planning a holiday to Adelaide (with a view to relocating) in July this year and would welcome any advise on any nice areas there offering good schools. We would preferably like to live within easy commuting distance of the city and the beach, and would like to be able to afford a decent sized plot of land for a reasonable price.

It would be great to hear from anyone in a similar situation or anyone else who has maybe even relocated from WA to South Australia.

Hi, we are sorry to hear you are not happy in WA. We where really confused about where to move to - WA or SA, really torn between the nice laid back lifestyle of Adelaide or the job opportunities of Perth and surrounding areas - Rockingham being one. We have read your post and now are set on Adelaide, although we cannot help you much on where to go etc we would like to thank you for making our minds up about where we will emigrate to.

Areas we have been looking at in Adelaide are Seaford and Aldinga and surrounding areas, half hour from city we think and on the coast. We also like the look of Flagstaff Hill. These are just assumptions on areas from what we have read as we have never touched Oz ground - yet!!!

Sure you'll receive lots of helpful posts on here.

There are so many suburbs here with so much to offer it is best to have a drive around and see what suits you. We are in the south and very close to the beach. Most of the suburbs around here are close to one of the many beaches and there is a lot of developement in the area with land available at affordable prices if you are looking to build. :D

It is a shame that WA cannot offer you the life you left the UK for so hopefully you will find what you are looking for in Adelaide on your trip

Hi,

My wife and myself are in the very early stages of the 'migration' experience. We are going for a regional visa and state sponsorship, but don't whether to go with a regional area like Mandurah or Adelaide. Lots of benefits to both, I suppose!!

I am getting the opinion that WA is far more expensive than SA and as we will be stuck to a Regional visa, this limits us to certain areas in WA, but not in SA.

We are still undecided.. Let's hope we get the state sponsorship and VISA first!!

Speak to you all later..

Dean

HI Dean

Welcome to PIA. We also looked briefly at WA but must admit the idea of being able to live anywhere in SA and the cost of living appealed more to us - plus Adelaide has a great family vibe to it :D

Good luck with the visa process - can you get both states to sponsor you or do you have to decide which state to sponsor you before going for the visa?

Cheers...

mmm, food for thought.. You can apply for a SA sponsorship, you just have to inform the SA goverment and the WA goverment of your intentions and ask for permission, I think??

Hi fellow Staffies,

We were originally bound for your neck of the woods, but like you the cost of living and housing put the kybosh( there's a word I've never written down before apologies if its spelt wrong!) on that plan. We are now v. happy with our decision to come to Adelaide.

How things change - at the start of this thread, when Neil and Myself where completely torn between Adelaide and WA, we now feel completely happy and confident we are making the right decision about going to Adelaide. Cost of living, housing, way of life etc. Thank you PIA for being so helpful and full of good advice once again!!!!!!!!!!!!
