Just a quick mail to introduce ourselves..We are Paul and Nicki and our two children Buster (real name Henry ,age 4) and Marnie Mae (age 2).We have received our 496 visas and are raring to go, although we really need to sell our house !!. Nicki's parents have lived in Hallett Cove since 95(having emigrated in 90,and living in Sydney) so it won't be that daunting when we get off the plane.Hoping to rent a house to begin with, with a view to building our own.We hope to live somewhere near Hallett Cove(baby sitters !!)but this really does depend on what work we find.I am in the shipping/transport industry and Nicki is a chef.I think I will need to change my job but think Nicki should be able to find work quite easily.

Nicki's parents are advising us to sell absolutely everything, but from reading your comments on here,it seems that you don't agree with that philosophy.

Any advice,on anything would be greatly appreciated,as although we have visited Adelaide many times,it's all very different now....

Look forward to hearing from some of you.

G'day Paul & Nicki.

Welcome to PIA.

We brought everything as it was the cheaper option.

3000 pounds to bring everything or spend 30,000 plus trying to replace everything.

HI Guys

Welcome to PIA! Totally agree with Matt. You cannot replace your whole house for the £3/4K it costs you to ship it from here - false economy!

Good luck with it all, keep us posted

hi nikki & paul

congrats on the visa, sounds like an exciting time ahead for you all, nice to have family to help you settle in adelaide.

were taking most of our things (when we sell the house!!!!) our boys are abit older than your children , someone said if they have their things around them , it will help them to settle , and us too, and of course there is the cost you have to work out,

hope the house sells soon and good luck with your plans

Thanks for the replies so far..we appreciate the advice and thank you for taking the time to reply to us.

We've just chopped another chunk off the asking price of our house,so hopefully we'll get some interest soon (fingers crossed!),then we can be on our way.

How are the plans with you guys coming along? Any firm dates to leave the country?

Let's hope that we all get out of here soon....

Hey Matt,

Thanks for your advice,I think we've pretty much decided to sell stuff we don't really want, and bring the items we can't or don't want to live without.

You might be able to help with another little question.Paul needs to know how easy it is to get hold of Brit football results over there....we're really going to miss Match of the Day...obviously you can on the net,but do you ever get to see anything on TV?

My dad doesn't really 'do' sport,so he's no help at all.

Thanks....

Have you been out to Adelaide before? Do you know roughly where you want to live? We have some idea of where we want to be,but it really depends on where we find work.Ideally we want to be in the Hallett Cove/Flagstaff Hills area, but it may not work out like that.

We have someone coming to view our house on Tuesday,so we're hoping like mad that they want to put an offer in.

We have until October to activate our visas,so hopefully we won't have to go over and do what you're doing.....still,at least you know that next time it will be for good!!
