    Friendships

Hi all, I’m a 47 year old single Mum of a 10 year old son. Moved to Adelaide 6 years ago now, currently living in the hills but a move on the cards very soon. Am looking to hopefully forge some new friendships. I’m very young at heart and I love watching live bands and going to music festivals, not quite so enjoyable on your own though especially when the majority of the crowd are 20+ as I say, I’m very young at heart and am a huge fan of most of the music that’s played on triple j. I also love visiting quirky bars and cafes etc, love the beach but also the hills! My son is into skateboarding, scootering and downhill racing! Looking forward to hopefully chatting away to some new people soon ?
  2. I had read previous threads in this forum highly recommending David Mawhinney. We have enjoyed his wonderful foods and service for previous parties. His phone just rings out and was wondering if he is still doing catering. If not, can someone here suggest a like-minded person for a party on the 20th of March? Thank you and fingers crossed someone can reply asap. Have made contact with David and his life situation has changed since last we enjoyed his wonderful foods in 2013.
  3. Hello Everybody! Thought it might be nice to organise a little meet up in the CBD on Friday 21st November from around 5pm...just gauging interest right now - does this suit everyone? There's been some interest from a few different people of different ages and backgrounds so it really would be a 'free for all'. If you're interested how about you reply with your name, age, place of origin and a few interests - just so we can start the ball rolling and get a bit of conversation going? Also if you have a particular meeting place in mind then feel free to recommend I'll start it off with: NAME: Karen AGE: 33 years young FROM: North Wales INTERESTS: Live music, comedy shows, outdoor exercise, wine tours and nice food!

    Soup

All this talk today of cold weather has spurred me into making soup. Just made big batches of roast red capsicum and tomato soup and my winter staple, butternut pumpkin soup. Bought bags of capsicums and tomatoes from our greengrocer for a few dollars each and pumpkins are very cheap at the moment too. This weeks lunches sorted. Anyone got a good recipe for the ham bone I froze after xmas?

  11. As started by Pablo on PIO ( PIO - Original Thread ) thought it'd be a good one to have on here to! A thread to suggest places to eat/ drink/ socialise/ live music/ good ol' proper pubs... whatever you fancy! Might be good for newbies to find somewhere try or for those who've been in Adelaide for a while to try something new! I'll get it started: Duke of York, Currie St - cheap beer, great atmosphere for after work drinkies and really good and cheap food (3 dollar pizza if memory serves!) Ying Chow, Gouger St - brilliant chinese restaurant - bring a group, order loads and share! The Archer, O'Connell St (North Adelaide) - best beers, excellent cocktails upstairs The Daniel O'Connell, Tynte St (North Adelaide) - best thursday night pub quiz, proper pints of guinness! Griffin's Head, Grenfell St - excellent pub lunch Coopers Alehouse @ The Earl, Pulteney Street - the BIGGEST parmi u will ever see and attempt to conqueor Botanic Bar, North Terrace - fancy cocktail kinda place, best g+t... PJ O'Briens, East Terrace - good ol' irish bar, mind out for the sticky floors! Belgian Beer Cafe, Ebenezer Place - does exactly what it says on the tin - quite pricey and always busy so go early and leave before you empty your wallet! Exeter, Rundle St - good for after work drinks, good music! Goodlife Organic Pizza, Glenelg - AMAZING! Russel's, Willunga - the most amazing pizzas, book WELL in advance and bring an esky with your favourite tipple, enjoy the pizza in the big ol' shed or on a blanket in the garden or in the house if you're very lucky! Worlds End Hotel, Hindley St - great young crowd, awesome beer garden and always a wonky pool table available to while away an evening!
  12. Hi All, Well... finally made the relocation from Sydney to Adelaide. I've been here a couple of months now. My partner and I love a GOOD curry. In fact, the last one I had was during a visit to the "Curry Mile" in Manchester, UK a few years ago. I would be very grateful for some ideas on exceptional Indian restaurants in Adelaide. Somewhere that cooks their food fresh (not the day before), nice and spicy as an Indian meal should be. Excellence is of utmost importance. Kind regards, Roger.

Cost of groceries: Aus vs UK

So I have spent the last ten minutes doing possibly the most loser-ish thing I have done in a long time and felt the need to share. After keeping my grocery receipts from my weekly shop yesterday, I did a comparison shop on tesco.com... now I must add I wouldn't have often shopped in Tesco in the UK, nor do I often to the majority of my groceries in Woolworths here (most often the majority of fresh food is from Wayville Farmers Markets or the Central Markets). When family/friends come over from the UK they often comment that groceries cost a lot more here... I often agree especially for things like toiletries, cat food etc.. but then in my opinion fresh meat, fish, fruit and veggies are often more reasonable here (and better quality IMO). So - for a typical-ish week's shop for two of us (plus kitten!) we spent $112 in Woolworths Glenelg... this on tesco.com would have cost 62 pounds... so $92 with today's exchange rate. Interested to hear anyone else's opinions of comparative cost of living re groceries etc...
  14. Hi all, I've been to a few great restaurants lately so thought I'd share the recommendations with any other foodies! Let me know your feedback if you try any, or I'd love to hear any other great finds! Cheers. - Mantra on King William Road, Unley. Sensational food, slightly higher prices than average but well worth it. Great service, great wine list. Highly recommend - duck was exquisite (and it's in the entertainment book!) - At the opposite end of the spectrum - Bing's in China Town (east side next door to Dumpling King). This place used to be called Ken's Northern Chinese Cuisine (or similar) and some signage still says this. Anyway - VERY cheap and cheerful - a bit food-courty. Food however is great. Amazing dumplings and roast duck pancakes... plus it's licensed! - Bridgewater Mill in Bridgewater (Adelaide Hills) - really special fine dining. Not cheap but well worth it for a special occasion. - Wasai - fabulous sushi/Japanese place just off Gouger Street (south side, think it's called Field St). The $30 sushi boat is fantastic value. - Bay Bar Dos - tapas place in Glenelg - one of the few places with ocean views. It's in the town hall building (just off Mosely Square). Looks a bit tacky outside but food is great. The prawn pizza is a must!
