Hi everyone, My husband & I are in the process of buying our first home (yipee!) The current owners have asked if we want to keep the house phone and internet they have at the moment but the only problem is we need to let them know ASAP as their provider requires a 30 day notice period - but we're not even sure we can get the place yet (waiting on our finances to be approved, contract signed and satisfactory inspections to be completed etc).... We're tempted to just tell them to cancel and we will reconnect when needed, although I've heard reconnection fees are ridiculously high?! Can anyone shed some light on what they've done when moving? And if you've had to reconnect how much it costs? Thank you

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping a few of you may be able to give us an insight into bathroom reno's... We're currently in the process of buying our first home but the one we've fallen in love with is in dyer need of a new bathroom. We've had a wonder around Bunnings to get rough costs, but it'd be great to know on average what others have paid/budgeted? Ours would only be a small bathroom 3.5m x 2.5m but in need of completely gutting out, a wall to be bashed down (which we'll prob do ourselves) and then get a plumber in to connect up all the new stuff. Any advice would be a great help! Thanks :)bath

Hi all We're almost there! We arrive in Adelaide on the 21st of January, can't wait! I want to say a huge thanks to everyone on this forum for the help so far, it's been amazing! My girlfriend and I are looking for a house share when we get there. We have the 1st week booked in a hostel, and after that we were hoping to join a house/flat share. It's really difficult to find shares that aren't for university students! A couple questions: A) What would be looking to pay for a decent share in and around the CBD (not a dodgy room where we never see any other tenants, we want to move into a home). B) Are we allowed to move into university accommodation? We'd rather not but if we run out of options it's good to know. C) If there's anyone looking for a tenant then PLEASE let me know. We are professionals looking to integrate into the culture and we're hoping if we move in with other people we will get a better chance of experiencing that. Thanks in advance

Hi, my name is Sam, I'm 25, I've been offered a new job in Adelaide and will be moving there at the end of November. I've joined pomsinadelaide to maybe make some friends and potentially meet some like minded pommes down under. Does anyone know of a good place to get a flat share sorted, I'm reluctant to get a house straight away on my own til I get to know the place a bit better for a short term period, but will do if it comes to it, as I won't be able to see it til I get there. I believe I will be working in the city centre if this makes any difference, so will want to be in close proximity to the centre of Adelaide. Also, I've not been to Australia before, anyone got any tips on typical British things that I could take into the office on the first day to put a smile on their faces? Thanks in advance

Hi we are a family of five and the current house we are renting has been sold and we have to move out before the 1st September 2010. so if there is anyone out there aware of any decent homes up for rent or breaking lease could you please leave us a message. We want somewhere to live where there is good transport links, so my wife can get to and from her work (North Calvary Hospital) easily as she does not drive. Thanks........

The house we currently live in has been sold and our tenancy is not being renewed so we have to move out very soon. We have managed to secure a new home just around the corner to us, which means the youngest child of ours aged 11 does not need to change schools and lose friends. We have been panicking and searching like mad for suitable homes. But life in Adelaide is so sweet and came up trumps for us again. The house is below: http://www.realestate.com.au/property-townhouse-sa-woodville+gardens-4047065966 The son is going back to the UK on September 1st so we only need a 3 bedroom now and this house is $65 a week cheaper. We get the keys on the Friday 13th August 2010

I have been searching through the housing rental sites and I have not found any decent four bedroom properties, we wanted a swimming pool as well, but I think I need to kick that in touch, no bloody chance of that. Ideally we are looking for Suburbs of City of Charles Sturt (Western Adelaide) as both the wife and I jobs are in the North, we would consider a little further North of the CBD, for the right property. But then again if we gain a good size four bedroom with a swimming pool and good transport links, then we would definitely consider further South of the CBD or on the East of the CBD. So if you hear or see anything or you are aware of anyone wanting to break their lease, ideally no later than 10th March, then I would love to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to read this, much appreciated.

Hi We are a family of four who arrived in Adelaide in January this year. We moved into an unfurnished 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 garage low maintenance detached modern property in Nairne in February. We have now bought our own property and so the rental property is being marketed as available from 12 October 2009 for $315/wk. It may be possible for a new tenant to take over our lease ie. only be tied in for the balance of about 3 months, otherwise it is a standard 12mth contract. It's no big deal if you need to break the contract (as we have) just a couple of hundred dollars re-advertising costs. Details of the property can be found at http://www.realestate.com.au Click the RENT tab and enter this property ID in the search box: 403089828 It's in a fantastic location with local amenities within walking distance eg. convenience store, post office, playground, nature reserve, school, hardware store, pharmacy, fish & chip shop, two cafes, pizzeria and an indian restaurant. Just 10 minutes away is Mt Barker with supermarkets, banks etc. Adelaide city is just 20 minutes down the freeway. Email me if you would like any further information. Best regards, Andrew

We are selling our house in Semaphore. Only 5 mins walk to the beach, cafes and shops. A lovely place to be. It is ready to move in - but also has great potential! With the new port development and transport links - you can not go wrong - either as an investment or to live in. Any questions - feel free to ask...
