OZ/UK Weather forecasting.

    Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed how the Aussies seem to forecast the weather perfectly, almost down to the hour, yet the blurts at the BBC weather centre would be better watching the cows in the field for accuracy! They never get much right, how come?

they have a large piece of land that they can monitor the weather comming over.

They also know what weathers being blown in from the sea by the direction its taking, and shipping reports.

Their 5 day forcast isn't so accurate at this time of year but there 3 day is near spot on.

Summer well forcasting sun everyday isn't to hard LOL.

It's bank holiday weekend back in Blighty, the August one (is that a public holiday??) just got off skype to me mum and its pissistantly raining. Typical holiday weekend. brrrrrrr

Because you can see the rain coming from a long way away - on here - http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR642.loop.shtml#skip

(Along with the Weather Channel on Foxtel, this is one of my OH's favourite sites - what is it with men and weather??!!)

Oh,i see,so the Beeb with all their multi million pound technological resources are unable to see the rain coming from a long way away?Yes,OK then.

It is far more accurate here.

I particularly notice it with going out on the boat - I ain't going out in 15 knots or more - scary:wideeyed::eek:

Here are some good forecasting sites - wind and surfy related but very accurate.

    http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/noarlunga

This one is based on the Norad (US) system and is VERY accurate.I can plan a week ahead for getting the tub out .

You need to fiddle around with this one a little more.

I'm into wind related sports & use the websites Tyke mentions regularly. Seabreeze is good for current wind reports but can be crap on Predictions. I used to use Windfinder when i was in the UK & it was spot on there, but not so good here.

As i'm only 5 min walk to the beach, i generally just look out the window & gauge wind strengths by the swaying of a couple of trees !!!
