    Hi everyone,

Been lurking on this site for a couple of weeks, but thought it was time to introduce ourselves. I'm Rachel, married to Mark and we have a 2 year old daughter Alex. We've being thinking about making this move for a while but have decided to go for it!

We've had a free assessment by an agent and have been advised that we should be able to obtain a skilled independant visa as Mark is a qualified visa.

Couldn't believe how much the agents were charging so we've decided to go it alone and save the cash for our new life in Oz!

We're starting to get everything together to submit our TRA application and so would appreciate any words of wisdom that anyone might have.

    Cheers

    Rachel & Mark

hello rachel, mark and alex and welcome!!

that's already a good start coming out of hiding ;)

well i'd say sit down and read and read and read again. lots to take in and lots to think but it is doable - so don't give up!

and if you've got a specific question just ask away - there is always someone who knows the answer.

i read for 3 weeks and then decided to get an agent after all  - but if your situation is straight forward: go for it!

what occupation is mark applying for? is he the main visa holder?

    Hi Rachel,

Was Alex playing up when you typed this??? I've got 4 distractions this end so know how it is.;)

Welcome to the boards hope you find it useful. We aren't using an agent either so your not alone there. Congrats on the decission to go. Its not easy making it and then telling the family. Good luck on the form filling.

    Hi Rachel,

Welcome, we are using an agent, as I like to have somebody else to double check everything. But is seems if your visa application is straight forward you can do it all yourself and save the money as it is rather costly using an agent.

Good luck gathering all your tra stuff.

    Hi Rachel

We used an agent . Wouldn't have a clue how to do it ourselves.

Hope it all goes well for you!

Hi Guys and welcome to the site. I know youve been browsing for a while, but congrats on registering.

We are using an agent. Steve's has a skill, but not enough points to get perm visa, so going on the SIR 495 Visa.

Also his age goes against him. 43 years young and we only really have one chance at this so using an agent. He is being made redundant in October, so we thought we wud use some money from that to fund the Agent fees.

    Hi Rachel & Mark,

Welcome to PiA. You'll find us a friendly bunch (when we're not taking the mick!;)) so any questions just ask. We didn't use an agent and found the whole process quite straightfoward once we actually got started.Good luck.

Thanks for the replies and warm welcome everyone.

I just read back through my original post - DOH!! As you have probably already guessed I am not a typist!! Mark is a welder, not a qualified visa!!

Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be on again soon asking questions.

Actually, to anyone who has done a TRA - how do you go about having documents certified? By whom?

    Cheers

Some agents can certify documents now along with JP, magistate and solicitor (probably a few others too but thats off the top of my head :o)

We phoned around some solicitors and found one that was willing to certify our pile of paperwork for 50p a sheet but we had quotes anything up to £7 a copy

    Hi Rachel, Mark and Alex

    Welcome, we are also newbies.

We decided to use an agent; it's good to have somebody else to double check everything especially as there are so many forms to fill in.

Good luck gathering all your tra stuff.
