IMHO

The reason that Britain no longer deserves the adjective that used to precede its name is that the population does nothing about the rubbish that successive governments throw at them, consistently voting in another bunch of greedy, bloodsucking, power-crazy elitists of a slightly different persuasion, who have no intention of EVER changing the status quo, because it benefits them to keep it the way it is. The only way that will ever change will be through massive social unrest, but don't hold your breath - most people are too lazy and apathetic to drag themselves away from the telly.

The way I see it is.......if you are English of Australian you have every right to complain about the way you are treated in your OWN country . If you live in the uk or Australia( or any where else for that matter) and have bummed a lift there ,dont pay taxes , dont want to fit into the system then ...........bog off...then not so many good folf like all of us wouldent be leaving our own country.

 

Heard this the other day ....the Houses of Parliment now has its own Mosque:arghh:...............the begining of the end, and before someone says ....NO I ant racist

I agree with that entirely. The lack of freedom for women in Islam is for me its big failing, and I wish I could believe that that's how the women want it, but I don't believe it.

On the other hand, it's a sick society that tolerates easily-accessible pornography, rampant drunkenness, a constant lowering of standards, selfishness, lack of consideration for others, etc etc etc. That's our Western societies folks, and when we consider all those failings, I don't think we are in a position to judge. Let he who casts the first stone...

Again though not all muslim men are extremist. In many families women enjoy an equal footing, they wield a lot of subtle power. It is a different environment to be sure but if that is your culture and you value it then things like wearing your first Hijab equate to big first things in our culture. My family lived in Saudi for a time and many of the women told my mother the black sacks actually gave them a lot more freedom. Going to the shops was okay if accompanied by a male relative ....even if he was only 2! Humans are the same all over, unfortunately you get control freaks in all cultures who abuse the social rules to suit themselves. The Koran is actually a very enlightened set of social rules. It allowed women to own property in their own right way before Christianity. It also ensured that women and children always had a home somewhere because the nearest male relative was honour bound to look after them. But just like in Christianity the words have been used by the various sects to suit their purpose, eg Plymouth Brethren, LDS hardline Baptists etc. There are a lot of interesting books written that show the real value and lives of women behind the veil, just as there are those that show the bad side. I think you'll find that most of the rules such as 'no Christmas lights', 'no nativity plays' etc are actually decided by local councils who think they know what people of other religions want... most multi-cultural people I know who live in the UK enjoy seeing the lights at Christmas and actually embrace our celebrations. I've had a Christmas card from a Muslim who lives in London... yes there are extremists but these people are everywhere and are from all religions. My son's nursery in the UK celebrated Diwali, Christmas, Eid, St Georges Day which they all enjoyed and is to be commended. We live in a society full of different cultures and we should all respect each others beliefs.

 

What amazes me is how so many Daily Mail reader types moan and moan about immigration but are more than happy to move to another country whether that be Spain or Australia. The whites have built churches all round the world for hundreds of years, I'm not religious but why shouldn't a Muslim who is employed (yes, working for a living and paying tax) not be allowed to pray if that's what his religion requires. The company I'm working for now in Adelaide has a prayer room and that shows respect for ALL its staff.

 

These types of posts really don't do anyone any favours and this is something I really don't like about PIA. Yes they are your points of view but is religion/politics really something we should get in to especially when they end up including quotes such as 'I'm not racist but....'

 

I really don't know why seeing Golliwogs is so funny but I guess if that cheered you up, great!
