Is Melbourne Cup Day (3rd Nov) a public holiday? Just seen loads of ads for lunch packages etc in The Messenger and wondered if people were off work/ school?

No only in Melbourne but we all stop work to see and hear the race.

As it states ITS THE RACE THAT STOPS THE NATION

It's a working day but don't bother trying to get any sense out of anyone after about 12:30 on that day! Make your phone calls in the morning.....

Working day here in SA, although most places get a TV set up so that you can watch it. The offices I've worked in put on a lunch, run a sweep, offer prizes to best facinaters (best to explain with a google), so you do get some time off
