Shipping Prices - What have you been quoted?

    Recommended Posts

    Hi

Just wondered what sort of prices people where being quoted for shipping lately. We will be looking at a 20ft container and when we got prices last year they were coming in around £3500.

Have been on the phone to removal companies to get more up to date prices and one of them who quoted last year mentioned how freight prices have gone through the roof so they'd be better coming out to do a fresh quote.

I have 4 companies coming out so hoping between the 4 we can keep it to as close to the £3500 as possible.

    Hiya cannons

We got a quote off excess baggage removal £4200 for a 20ft container. The bloke who came round said shipping costs have shot up in the past two months. Needless to say Im have a couple of more companies coming around in the next few weeks. Good luck in your search.

    Hi there

We ended up getting about 6 quotes, but only because the first ones were sooo expensive.

White and Co come next week. £3400 for 20ft sole use container. :-)

Price increases will have happened across the board. There was an news item on the 'British Association of Removers' website last month.

"Every year the shipping lines independently review their rates and adjust them in accordance with market conditions. Over the last few years there had been very little change in ocean freight rates. In 2010 there has been a dramatic increase on all major routes and these became effective from 1st March. This increase applies to all commodities and is not limited to household furniture. Your chosen removal company will be able to advise you of any impact this may have on recent pricing and you should contact them directly. The BAR is not involved in pricing, and only offers this information as confirmation of a general price increase by shipping lines."

We have had abit of a nightmere with our removals as our goods were in storage ready to ship last year but due to delays on getting our visas we had to have it sent back to our rental in the UK. Amazingly the company we used still charged us full amount (anglo pacific:mad:) and when we finally recieved the visas we went back to them thinking they might give us a competitive quote but were still more then alot of the others. They won't be getting any of my business and no recommendation in the future!! We have gone with Pickfords who so far have been very professional and for a 20ft container £3500 and free storage. Getting close now, coming to collect on May 27th!!1

We are getting quotes from Pickfords, White & Co, PSS and Doree Bonar hopefully we'll be able to get one or two of them to come down in price to get our business.

We are shipping everything as we will have no money to buy new stuff in Oz and I believe that £3500 - £4000 to ship everything is still going to be cheaper than replacing everything we have.

Any other shippig Co's we should try? Had Anglo out last year as well but have since heard not such good things about them.

Hi we had 4 quotes ranging from £3500 up to £4600 (20ft), and in the end decided to just take boxes (29 i think!), we used john masons and ended up with 125 cubic feet costing just under £900, which we thought was good value (they came and packed it all 2, brill!!), weve shipped all the childrens toys, clothes, our clothes, shoes, personal possessions, photos, duvets, all the kitchenwear (microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery) and computer, tvs, wii etc. The rest we have sold, as we decided that we can replace it as there is ikea/amart/lecornu etc, plus stuff was old and would probs want to replace it within 6months of being out there (plus I want new things haha!), all our wardbrobes were fitted and our girls want bunk beds when we get there which they dont have (also thought this would be great 4 when visitors come!)also we are renting our house out over here so are leaving the white goods in the house, so 4 us personally it was better 2 have a shared container, I guess it just depends on individual circumstances. We did a lot of changing our minds!!! John masons were our cheapest quote for a 20ft and were nice 2 deal with to. Good Luck guys
