Hi Jimmyskinner, we moved here 6 months ago and have just bought a house ( we move tomorrow !) we had to prove 3 months employment and got a mortgage with Commonwealth bank, you have a good deposit you should be fine, good luck.

    Hi there

It does depend on your individual circumstances but if your husband will be doing the same job here as he was in the UK and has been doing it for a number of years then you should not have long too wait at all, for some it is possible to get one straight away.

Also having that amount as a deposit should help but it will of course depend on the purchase price as to what that $200k means as a percentage. As you are being sponsored then I presume you will be temporary residents, generally temp residents need a 20% deposit but there is still 1 or 2 lenders that may go to 90% mortgage.

Also being temp will mean that you will need FIRB approval see here http://www.pomsinadelaide.com/forum/money-finance/16824-temps-buying-house-need-firb-approval-again.html

    Regards

    Andy
