The future of newspaper reading has arrived on your computer!

 

Thanks to SA’s public libraries, Brits with an SA public library card can now access FULL ‘page-by-page turning’ electronic versions of the Australian and the Advertiser (and UK papers - see list below) for FREE using their home computer (or anywhere with an internet connection).

 

These are just some of the newspapers freely available on the PressDisplay online resource ( http://www.pressdisplay.com ) … there are over 1000 other FULL version titles to choose from (including those in other different languages) for example:

So how can you get access?

 

1) You need to be a member of your local SA public library and have your library card handy (joining up is so easy and takes only minutes)

 

2) Visit Library PressDisplay and select your library from the drop down menu

 

3) A new page will open. Enter your member number in the BARCODE field and click ‘Sign in’. (note: your member number starts with an ‘x’ followed by 10 digits)

 

4) Hover over ‘Select title’ at the top of the page on the right hand side to select your newspaper

 

5) Enjoy your read!

Now I am from Yorkshire so pleased to see the Yorkshire Post on the list.

 

BUT ........... being typically Yorkshire I have to ask.....

Will it cost "owt"?;)

Hi mate, it costs nothing, nada, zilch. It's a free service provided to South Australians, funded by councils and state government.

 

It's of interest to:

- people on a budget

- people living in SA (or visiting) from other countries (like expat Brits)

- people in regional/remote areas who cannot easily access local papers

 

Not meant to be spam, just passing on a great resource.

I have to say I think the library service here in SA is absolutely fantastic! Couldn't beleive it when I first got here and found it was free to borrow CDs, videos and DVDs - used to have to pay in the UK and often with fines etc I may as well have bought the thing!

 

The ordering system is great too - I order online through the library website at home, then they send me an SMS when the item is in.

 

Our local library also has a toy lending section too I think. And lots of activities for kids of all ages throughout the year, especially during holidays.

 

The newspaper thing is great too, thanks for letting us know about it, Bronte.
