    Hi

We are just preparing to emigrate later in the year and need advise on what to do about our company pensions?

    Any advise from your experiences?

    thanks Mel

    Hi Mel

Transferring Pensions to Australia can be a very complex area, there are many rules and regulations to be aware of and this is an area that you should seek professional advice in.

My comments though are that there is no rush to do anything before you leave and one of the main considerations of transferring your Pension rights is your intention to remain in Australia.

Generally unless you have been living, working and socialising in Australia for a period of time it is unlikely you will know this. Once you feel that this is the case then that would be the time to start seeking advice.

You may have heard on the grapevine that it must be done within 6 months or there are big tax implications, however these stories are generally put out there by UK companies trying to secure peoples business before they emigrate. There may be some tax implications along the way however they really are not as onerous as made out and in most cases can be mitigated.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

    Andy

Thats one thing we dont have to worry about for the moment then!

Maybe we can come and see you when we have settled?
