Expired Passport

We have been in SA now for 4 months and love it. We are perm residents. My sons British Passport expires soon. How do we get the visa put in the new passport? Is it something that is done automatically?

 

Has anyone been in a similar positon??

Hi I have just got a new passport for my son.

You don't need to do anything with the visa, I believe it is automatic, but if you travel I have heard most people take both passports, the new one and the old one with the visa in. I suppose this is only until you become a citizen.

Getting the passport was easy too. You just phone the post office to make an appointment, print off the forms from the post office web site, fill them in and take them to your appointment. It took about 5 weeks to arrive.

Vista finance - Andrew Williams will sign your passports free of charge, if you are a client of his. (He sorted our mortgage and is in the process of our pensions & has been brilliant, so I would definitely recommend him)

We got new British Passports and needed to transfer our permanent Visa.

This can be done quite easily at the immigration office in the city, Currie St I think?.

If you queue for a short while, they do it while you wait.

This saves carrying 2 passports when travelling.

You need to carry both passports the one with the visa in it and the new passport.
