10 yrs in adelaide

    Recommended Posts

I moved to Adelaide 10 years ago from South Wales, UK (dont hold that against me and no I do not speak welsh lol). There is just myself and my 18 yr old daughter and I am still homesick for my UK friends. It has been very difficult to meet people to socialise with and to form new friendships. This is mainly due to working for a local small company since my arrival and I am the only woman.

Whilst I am still young at heart, I am in my 40s and am not comfortable going out to social places alone. I am an outgoing friendly person who enjoys socializing, having a good laugh etc. I love dining out, bbqs, going to the movies or just chatting over coffee. Things I have'nt been able to do for such a long time and now with my daughter being older, I am able to go out when I want with no worries.

I came across this website and after reading some of the threads, I find there are many new arrivals and even people that have been here a while who are wanting to make new acquaintances. I think this is important as it certainly helps to settle into a new country which is so very far away from home. When I read threads about people being homesick, my heart really does go out to them because I have experienced this myself.

So I thought "this is it" a great way for me to meet new people and having been here for a decade, I could even be able to give some help and advice if needed.

If anyone would be interested in meeting up please feel free to contact me.

    Hi Jan

There's a few of us over this side of town - occasionally get together for a coffee or a few drinks in the evening. We've been meeting at the Modbury Plaza Tavern the last couple of times - there's a nice outdoors area there now they've done it up (although "Inside" enough not to be freezing at this time of year!). Not done one for a while, so probably due another one. I'll try and organise something for August if you fancy coming along. Old and new people. Happy to come and meet you outside if you don't want to walk in alone. If you want to send me a PM with your email address (click on my user name on the left and select "Send Private Message") I'll email you with date and details etc, otherwise keep an eye on the social section on here, I'll post details on there too. Alternatively of course, you're welcome to pick a date and venue yourself and post it up - I only take on the organising as a default!!

    Looking forward to meeting you.

    Diane

A big Welcome to PIA Jan,

I see the beginnings of a PIA Party round your way and quite possibly a lot of questions for advice coming your way:D

Once you have settled in here have you thought about running a PIA meet?

    Hi NickiNoodes

Thanks for your reply. I dont think I have lost my accent but when I went back to Cardiff, S Wales, my friends said my accent had changed, so now I think I have a wauzzie accent lol.

Its lovely to receive these replies only 24 hrs after posting the thread with people suggesting I meet up with them. Its all very exciting! Yes it would be good to meet you.

I think I will send out a new post inviting people and yourself to meet up for a social gettogether. Just now need to think of somewhere local. Will be in touch soon. Jan
