As started by Pablo on PIO ( PIO - Original Thread ) thought it'd be a good one to have on here to!

A thread to suggest places to eat/ drink/ socialise/ live music/ good ol' proper pubs... whatever you fancy!

Might be good for newbies to find somewhere try or for those who've been in Adelaide for a while to try something new!

I'll get it started:

Duke of York, Currie St - cheap beer, great atmosphere for after work drinkies and really good and cheap food (3 dollar pizza if memory serves!)

Ying Chow, Gouger St - brilliant chinese restaurant - bring a group, order loads and share!

The Archer, O'Connell St (North Adelaide) - best beers, excellent cocktails upstairs

The Daniel O'Connell, Tynte St (North Adelaide) - best thursday night pub quiz, proper pints of guinness!

Griffin's Head, Grenfell St - excellent pub lunch

Coopers Alehouse @ The Earl, Pulteney Street - the BIGGEST parmi u will ever see and attempt to conqueor

Botanic Bar, North Terrace - fancy cocktail kinda place, best g+t... :D

PJ O'Briens, East Terrace - good ol' irish bar, mind out for the sticky floors! :P

Belgian Beer Cafe, Ebenezer Place - does exactly what it says on the tin - quite pricey and always busy so go early and leave before you empty your wallet!

Exeter, Rundle St - good for after work drinks, good music!

Goodlife Organic Pizza, Glenelg - AMAZING!

Russel's, Willunga - the most amazing pizzas, book WELL in advance and bring an esky with your favourite tipple, enjoy the pizza in the big ol' shed or on a blanket in the garden or in the house if you're very lucky!

Worlds End Hotel, Hindley St - great young crowd, awesome beer garden and always a wonky pool table available to while away an evening!

The Victory Hotel - on the hill above Sellicks on Main South Rd.

Front bar is great with decent bar food.

The main restaurant is not cheap but worth it for the stunning view over the bay .

Glenelg wise, The Strand on Jetty rd is excellent, as is Good life pizza on Jetty Rd and The Dublin pub on Moseley square isn't bad either. Great Pot Pies in winter! Kathmandu is also a very good place on nile street.

I love The British Pub in North Adelaide for steaks, choose the meat from the counter and either cook it yourself or they will do it. The Strathmore stone grill in the city is great too.

Sato in North Adelaide for great Japanese food.

Curries are a tough one but I would say Monsoon in North Adelaide or Jasmin in the city, Hindmarsh Square are both really good. If you want no frills curry on a plastic plate then the best is the little kiosk in city cross food hall, forget the name of it but it always has the biggest queue in there at lunch time and it is very cheap!

The Feathers, top of Greenhill Rd has half price pizzas on Tues pm's. Paid just $9 for a medium pizza last night and very nice it was too. Don't think they do take away though, you have to stay and eat.

Lord Melbourne in Melbourne St, North Adelaide has $10 steaks on Thurs pm's. Good size tender steak, salad and chips.

I've heard the Bombay Bicycle Club is quite good.Havent been there myself, but family have, and havent had a bad meal yet!I always think the country pubs do the best meals.I was back in SA last year with OH and always ate in the country towns.More value for money and much much better atmosphere than suburban pubs.I'd rather talk to a farmer anyday!:cute:

Norton Summit - top of Magill Road for food, atmosphere, good beer and views to die for.

Three Brothers - Macclesfield for food, beer varieties and general atmosphere

Scoozi - Rundle Street, for excellent service, (italian) food and atmosphere - good place to drop in before going to the cinema/theatre

Newton's Garden Centre Tea Rooms - Tea Tree Gully for a really special 'high tea' in beautiful surroundings (don't go on Sunday afternoons unless you have booked). Great place for 'ladies that lunch' and other types of 'girlie' get togethers .

The British - North Adelaide (as has been said)

Cant believe no one has mentioned the Balti house in Goodwood. The best indian since being here.

We also frequent Bon goirnou (sp?) O'halloran hill.

Quite often pop in the Hub Tavern Aberfoyle park if we cant be bothered to cook

Cheap n cheerful are the Fasta Pasta's, all been good.

KY Chow on Gouger Street (at Courts end) is great Chinese food, and very reasonably priced; a personal favourite of mine.

Gaucho's for steak and silver service. Hog's Breath used to be good but it has slipped a lot recently.

Eros Ouzeri is good (my mate loved it) and Pink Pig in N. ADL does cracking good ribs.

Tom and Mary's in Coober Pedy for Saganaki prawns and Lamb Souvlaki, plus John's Pizzeria (also CPD). Worth travelling all that way for.

Bakeries ? I can tell you some :D Kupsch's at Crystal Brook (on the way North), St. George's opposite the Granada Hotel on Portrush Road (on the way to SE Freeway) and the one next to the BP on Greenhill Road (up towards Burnside).

@ OzzieClare2be, tell me it ain't so - Rumour was from the Adelaide business pages that Birdies (Tap Inn) was in receivership and was closing ?! Does this also mean Bombay Bicycle Club too ?

I am not making this up, because I read the business / finance pages daily. Having trouble finding any articles, but here goes....

Things getting tough out there - CREDIT CRUNCH

Aussie pat's other half here

Yes, the Tap Inn was in receivership. Not sure on most recent developments, but it was being run as a going concern by the receivers and was open last time I passed, which admittedly was before Xmas.

Pub and restaurant recommendations - one of my favourite topics! Some of my picks:

Places to drink:

- Wheatsheaf Hotel (Wheaty) in Thebarton - lovely pokie free pub. Lots of interesting beers, wines and whiskeys... they don't stock the big brand names - just stuff from smaller wineries, independent breweries etc. Great atmosphere, great live music - love it!

- Ed in Mitcham - love the beer garden there

- Surf Club in Glenelg - not technically a pub but great place for sunset drinks on the balcony - so cheap considering the view and you're supporting surf lifesaving

- Cork Wine Bar on Gouger St - LOVE this place. Bit more expensive but so worth it for those who are into good wine - run by lovely South African couple who love to chat about the wines - always got new things to taste. Can't recommend highly enough.

Places to eat:

- Wasai on Field St, just off Gouger - best sushi in Adelaide! Big sushi boat, heaps for 2 to share, $30 - so fresh and tasty.

- Victory Hotel at Sellicks Beach - totally agree on this one - wine cellar is fab, food delish. Recommend outside on a summer's day.

- Star of Greece at Port Willunga for a special occasion, at sunset!

- Bay Bar Dos in Glenelg (Town Hall) is my new favourite - AMAZING tapas (try the salt & pepper quail, duck shanks, pork belly and delish prawn pizza!)

- Esca on the Marina in Glenelg - only place worth Marina prices (and in the Entertainment Book)

- Dumpling King in Chinatown, city - dirty cheap Chinese - place is a bit of a dump but sooo cheap and dumplings are amazing!! Where else can you stuff yourself for $10/head?!

- Mesa Lunga tapas on Gouger St (corner of Morphett), City - WOW - go here with a group of foodies and share - we had 6 tapas to share plus a huge yummy paella for $40/head

- The only Indian food I've eaten in Aus that comes close to 'English Indian' is Charminar - there are a few branches. Heard really good things about Arya in North Adelaide together (in Entertainment Book)

- Third Cork wine bar in Semaphore - great place for a bottle of wine and a platter

- Tongue Thai'd, Henley Beach Road (city end - Mile End?) - YUM - great food, great service, quirky place - the eggplant chicken dish is out of this world

- Tanapa Thai, Jetty Road, Glenelg - very authentic Thai food - the snapper special is beautiful.

- Hotel Tivoli, Pirie St, City - really good pub food - would be called a gastro pub in the UK! China town duck burger (not really a burger) is YUM! Great value using entertainment book

- Bacchus Bar, Henley Beach - love the chilled atmosphere of this place, very cool, feels more Melbourne than Adelaide. Yummy food. Half price oysters on a Wednesday night! A summer fave.

- Zest Cafe Gallery - Glenelg - best breakfast by the beach run by lovely lovely family. Zesty Eggs is my fave dish - yum!

- Cos, Leigh St (between Currie and Hindley), City. Best steak in Adelaide. Not cheap but so worth it.

Phew - think that's my favourites covered - happy eating! =)
