Moving from Cairns

    Recommended Posts

Hi I am thinking of relocating to Adelaide in august, I immigrated to Cairns from Lancashire in 2009. I will have full filled all my sponsor requirements in July. I am a single parent with 2 teenagers so need to be near decent schools and a hospital as I am an Endoscopy nurse, so any ideas on which hospitals (would prefer public rather than private) schools and areas to live would be good. Also like a game of darts so would love some info on dart teams :biglaugh: I will be renting a property and I have 2 dogs and a cat which makes it ten times harder (do like to make my life difficult). Hope someone can give me some advice :err:

Hi and welcome to the forum

As a fellow mother of two teenagers you have my every sympathy! Can't help you a great deal with hospitals, but there is one at Flinders in the South, the Royal Adelaide and Women's and Childrens in the middle, Lyell McEwin in the North, and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the West (ish) - although I don't know which have endoscopy wards or specialisms! Hopefully someone far more knowledgable than me will be along soon to help with that. Whichever you were working in, there would be plenty of good suburbs and schools within about a twenty minute commute, so you have plenty of choice!

As far as darts are concerned, you could have a look at South Australian Darts Council Inc. if you are after a club to join or something. Can't say I've seen much darts going on, but if it's out there, they'll know where!!

Welcome again, and feel free to ask anything and everything! you may even be lucky and get someone who knows the answers to your questions (unlike me, sorry!)

    Diane

We're not sure yet....we're not definately sure we'll make the move to Adelaide (if you've read my thread it'll make sense) but we are thinking about it and researching it. If we do make the move, we'd like it to be sooner rather than later as I'm pretty unhappy here

Just read your thread,I get quite homesick and lonely but when I look at what we have here compared to UK I know I made the right decision, it's really hard at first, I came out on my own with kids and had quite a few issues. I have made a couple of friends but not many as I don't really go out feel bad leaving kids while I go work so can't leave them to go out as well. Even though Cairns hasn't worked out for us I still believe Oz is the right place. I am trying to make up my mind between Adelaide and Melbourne so having a couple of days in each in march so I can make up my mind. Would it not be possible for you to have a trip down to have a look round? Hope it works out for you :)

Hi Lorraine, be sure to let us know when you're going to be in Adelaide - can perhaps meet up for a drink somewhere.

We too were looking at Melbourne and Adelaide but both of us keep getting drawn back to Adelaide. We would both like to do a reccie but it's the cost and as we only moved to Aus in July and have spent so much in the last 6 months getting ourselves sorted we just don't have the spare cash for it.

I salute you for moving here on your own with two children, you are very brave :) Do they enjoy it here? What is it about Cairns you're not happy with? I totally understand why you don't get much social time, I would be the same. Maybe in Melbourne and Adelaide you and the kids could get out more with other expats together?

Please keep us posted! Feel free to PM me if you want to chat :chatterbox:

We relocated from NSW just over 12 mths ago and although we liked it in Wagga Wagga we much prefer it here, 2 teenagers girl 14 and boy 16 and a young adult 23, there is a lot more for them to do here. We live near the Collonades, train station, bus station, cinema and of course the beach etc. Feel free to pm if you would like any more info xx and good luck
