    Me again:biglaugh:

At Minda, we advocate for the rights, inclusion and welfare of all people living with intellectual disability and provide support to ensure individuals live satisfying lives.

Minda has recently adopted the guiding principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities. This convention recognises that everyone is equal, has the right to make their own decisions, and should be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. For people with an intellectual disability who have had a lifetime of limited decision making it may be a difficult task for them to speak up for their rights. So, Minda has undertaken a Self Advocacy Project

Self Advocacy is where people living with a disability learn to:

    • Speak up for their rights
    • Have a say about what’s important to them
    • Work together to change things they don’t like
    • Support others
    • Make their own choices
    • Talk to other people about their rights

The self advocacy group that has been established called “Express Yourself” it is currently undertaking the self advocacy training. To continue to do both of these things in the future and offer the opportunity to other people with a disability the self advocacy group needs to do a lot of fundraising. For 2011 they have a target of raising $30,000. To do this though they need some help through donations of prizes that they can raffle off. So if people could spread the word to companies they work for etc, doesn't matter the size of the prize any prizes would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers Jo:notworthy:
