Providing proof of funds - is an account in a different name ok?

    Recommended Posts

    Hello all,

Hoping someone might be able to help with this one, we will have just enough money available to go to SA although it is not in our account - it is in someone else's - does anyone know if this will be ok? Will we need to get signed documentation to prove that the money will be available to us even though it is not in an account in our name?

Many thanks in advance - this forum is SO good for help and advice!

I'm fairly sure it would have to be in your name. Else you may need to get a Statutory Declaration from who ever's account it is in, to say you can have the money and they are giving it to you as a gift and don't expect you to repay it etc. This will have to be witnessed by a solicitor.

Or you can do what we did - move the money in to your account, get the bank to sign and stamp the form, and then transfer the money back!

We didn't have to prove we had any funds. We just stated how much we had and got one of Jane's work mates, a nurse (not that that matters), to sign the form confirming we were telling the truth.

Most of our money was equity in our house that we couldn't prove so this seemed the only way.
