Hello Everybody :cute:

My name is Nicola and I am currently training to be a Nurse hoping to qualify in July 2012, and move to Adelaide by the summer of 2013. I will be 28 years old.

However, I am a complete beginner when it comes to the emigration process and have no idea how or where to start.

If anybody could help on where or how to start: visas, jobs, housing or any advice about anything emigrating in general. I would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards and I look forward to hearing from you.

Nic

Hiya :) Welcome on your journey down under :)

It probably will have all changed by when you want to go, as it seems to change every 5 mins, so the usual thing of going to the immigration website and doing the wizard isn't really appropriate - if you had finished your nursing degree and had 12 months experience you could apply now, but as you haven't, you can't (unless you have another qualification/job and have been doing that the last 12 months out of 24). I'll give you the link anyway, as you can then see what the current system is:

http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/#

Thats the lovely wizard, the whole site has loads of info as well though.

In July this year its meant to change to this though:

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-testfaq.pdf

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-fact.pdf

You should be ok for points either way, but who knows what it will be like when you apply in a couple of years? (They only just mucked around with it last year I believe anyway...).

Advice about emigrating in general - if you are specifically looking at SA, the Make the Move website (http://www.migration.sa.gov.au/sa/home.jsp) is pretty good, if you are not yet set on a specific area, have a look at the Poms in Oz website, it covers all areas, and just keep reading threads, its a really good website full of help. And if you have any specific questions, ask, its the quickest best way to find out what you want to know :)

I don't know where you get nursing jobs, as I'm a teacher not a nurse, but they always seem to be in need, either google or search on here (lots of threads on it), or wait for someone far more patient and clever than I to come along and help (that will be a nurse then).

Good luck, have fun, everyone here is lovely so don't be afraid to ask anything :)
