Sorry this might not be helpful but OH says he looked into this and was told we still would need to open an account in Australia, the uk account couldn't be transfered.

We have gone with NAB.

We have kept our First Direct Bank Account (on-line banking), good for relatives putting money in for children's birthday's/Christmas etc. We opened up an account with Commonwealth Bank for over here. Hope this helps.

Hi - HSBC are here but you will need to open a separate new account with them. Should be able to do this via the UK. You will find that they have limited branches and tills only (you may have to pay transaction charges) but transfer charges for money are reduced due to same group (athough check the rate).

We are with NAB over here but have retained first direct in UK (who are great!).

Hope this helps

OH used to work for First Direct back home, as said previously they are part of HSBC but not many HSBC banks or ATMs around Adelaide. When we came here 4 years ago the account couldn't be transferred unless things have changed.

Also as said, good to keep an account open there. We bank with Westpac here and find them to be great and very helpful. The OH now works there lol
