Visa label required for Singapore airlines extra baggage ???

    Hi All

We've been looking into flights/baggage allowance and have decided to fly with Singapore Airlines. Had remembered reading that they gave a special migrant baggage allowance of 40kg for permanent visa holders. Emailed them to check and got this reply:

    MIGRATING TO AUSTRALIA

Kindly note, if you hold an unused/unstamped/not validated migrant visa that specifically states that you are permitted to remain in Australia indefinitely/permanently, you will then be entitled to the double (40 kilos, per passenger).

The double baggage will only be granted when you check in at the airport when this visa is sighted and checked that it has also not been travelled on before, this has to be the first time it is being used.

We didn't bother getting our visa label put in our passports but upon reading this it sounds like we might have to to prove it's unstamped.

Has anyone flown with Singapore and experienced this?

    Thanks

    Janice

Thanks for your reply, might send another email to the airline and double check if they can check the visas electronically. Would hate to turn up at check-in and have to pay extra/leave suitcases behind!

They can check the visa status electronically, just take a copy of your visa grant letter with you just in case.

Make sure you can take extra baggage on any connecting flights!

We booked to go from Manchester to Heathrow on BMI and we had a heated discussion with the check in staff about this very subject.

Also spoken to people that have flown into Oz through different airport and then struggled to get luggage to Adelaide.

Be warned....Not trying to scare you just pointing things out...

When you arrive in Australia they stamp your passport with arrival date, you could just show the

check-in desk all the pages of your passport to show you not entered Australia since visa been granted. Our entry to Australia stamp is 3 pages back from Visa so they dont actually stamp the visa (in our case anyway).

We had this problem with singapore airlines. They will accept a printed copy of your visa letter but if you have been to Oz to verify your visa before you emigrate you will need your luggage tickets to prove that you haven't used your allowance already. We had quite a job convincing them that we hadn't used our allowance before.

I'd say you were very lucky to get it then, as they are very clear in "unstamped/unvalidated visa", good on ya

It took a lot of pleading to get them to believe us.
