MEDICALS.....Is This The WORST bit ?????

Hi there all, well does the stress ever end? When we started this process in January, we had to lodge our main application to DIAC by end June, so time and stress was always an issue, but we got our TRA done (took forever but got there!!) then applied to SA for sponsorship, got that and ticked another box, we then lodged to DIAC with our complete application on 18th May, so we thought....ah...sit back and relax now as we have lodged in time so we can chill abit...but now the Medicals have overtook our lives and we stressing more than ever....there are 8 of us, my, O/H and the 6 children and we all obviously have to pass to get the Visa Grant....so now we sit here every night thinking "what if something wrong with one of us??" I have a hole in my heart, have since birth (its called a VSD) I have no probs with it (Have given birth to 7 children so my heart is as good as anyone's!!) I have been to hosp in the last month to get all tests done so that I can take the reports to the medical, have had ECG and echocardigram and they all ok, so I am not concerned about that bit as I know it not an issue, however, me and O/H do smoke, we have cut down loads though, we were 20 a day, now only 5 a day and we only smoke those cos of the stress of the whole Visa journey! I know I have scarring on my lungs from previous chest x rays, but we are both fit and healthy, we run every day 5 or 6 miles, we bike also 5 to 6 miles every other day and O/H has stopped all alcohol, we eat healthy and have an active lifestyle.....but I still STRESS and WORRY about these bloody medicals!!!! I am sure I am not alone in this, many of you have been there and done it.... so I am just ranting and worrying today...PIA is great for getting things off your chest!!!!! Cheers all for listening!!:biglaugh:

Hi there - I am also worrying myself sick about these medicals and am spending hours trawling through here reading peoples' experiences..........feel really anxious. MY husband and son should be fine, my main worry is that I have a BMI of 35 although I swim 3 times a week, am otherwise healthy (as far as I know) and have worked full time all my working life with no time off for illness!!

My other concern is my 18 year old daughter who is also classed as obese - has asthma - but refuses to try and lose weight as she does not want to emigrate!!!

If she or any other of us fail does that mean the whole application fails????????

Well i'm over 19 stone with a high bmi ,been going to the gym but only for the last 2 weeks:biglaugh: ,i'm more worried about getting a job than the meds ,seems as long as your not completly unfit we should all be ok.

We're going to book Edinburgh for are meds ,as hopefully they will be used to seeing unfit people like us.

Try not to worry.

(easy for me to say now)

You will as its only normal but unelss there is something major you should be fine.

Take a look on poms in Oz, there is a thread called what medical condition did you have and still got your visa. Some things on there that will make you look at yourself and think i should be fine.

You will get there in the end.

Good luck.

How do you work out your bmi?

I am tall 5.7 and 10 1/2 stone will I have a high one? Do I need to get my butt down the gym? I know I won't be doing the meds for a while but if I need to lose weigh I better get on it!

Hi

Dont worry about medicals. I had a hole in my heart PDA (didnt find it till I was 8). I had it closed when I was 15. I knew the umbrella they used to close it would show on chest x-ray so was worried about that. Had all medical notes that it had never caused me any problems, gave birth to 3 kids ( last pregnancy being twins, carried to full term). Our eldest twin was under 2 at the time and centre we went to measured under 2's head. Well his head is nearly off the scale and he was seen in Uk for this and given the okay. Since we moved here his head size has come up again after various age assessments (that another long story). I not exactely a size 10, and at the time didnt do much exercise. Hubby not a skinny thing around the middle either.

We got our visas okay so please dont worry.

this has really made me smile, i was panicking about it all myself i had really high blood pressure in pregnancy and it took over a year to come back to normal levels! i really was terrified we'd miss out because of that (which probably did anything but bring it down!) think its perfectly normal to worry about it but from what i've understood unless you have something major wrong that requires a lot of time in terms of medical care you should be fine. i know someone that passed the medical and has diabetes and i thought that would mean you failed, think its to do with the condition and how its managed and everything!

and helene73 i'm also 5ft7 and i weigh 10st 5lbs at the minute and my bmi is 23.3 so you'll be fine with that! you can google bmi calculator and put your weight and height into that to give you the right number for you

I was going to say exactly the same thing! Our sponsorship came through on the same day as well!! Spooky :)

We have no idea where we're going to be honest - I suppose it depends where the jobs are - hopefully by the coast and not too far from the city - what about you guys?

OMG!!!! I really hope so - we're thinking about booking our meds and police checks to get them done so we're ready - feel dead excited but nervous about them - just want to get them done with and hopefully then it's one less thing to worry about.
