    Hi

we hope to be coming over to Adelaide in the next few months. We have a 4 year old cocker spaniel who is like a member of the family. Really dont want to leave him in the Uk but im not sure about how easy it is to find rental property when you have a dog. I have tried emailing some real estate agents, but no one has come back to me. Can anyone offer me any advice please ?

You wouldn't even get a reply if you contact agents from England with a dog or not.Our friends got a dog friendly rental but it took quite a bit longer to get so make sure your temp rental is long enough to sort everything out.

They are around. Like has been said, until you are actually in Aus letting agents won't really be bothered.

FWIW dogs are often expected to live outside the house in rentals. And often Aussie's have their own dogs living outside also. I found this quite strange where you have a family pet but it lives in the garden and has a kennel. I've done that with working dogs But its the norm. I guess for Brits we have our dogs in the house mostly for numerous reasons. But climate in Adelaide is such they can live outside just fine.

Its a different mind set toward dogs and things like dog parks for exercise and so on are set aside. Some beaches and other areas can be used but it may well be rather different to what you will be used to in the UK. I know for me, a person who walks miles across footpaths and open countryside the move to Aus with a dog is the one thing that concerns me the most. Hence we'll be leaving our doglet with my parents. Its his home from home and he is very happy there and I feel better about that than bringing him and changing his entire lifestyle.

I have had a few guests who have brought their pets with them.

It does take a little longer to find a rental and perhaps a slightly larger deposit but everyone has managed fine.

There are quite a lot of dogs that live outside ut I wouldn't leave my dog out there. It's been 6 degrees at night for the past few days and I have a Boxer...she shivers during the day!

They recon that there are 4 million dogs in Oz...1 for every 5 people. There are butchers type shops that just specialise in dog food! The local beaches near us are dog friendly...dogs can run off a lease (these beaches are Port Noarlunga South and O Sullivans beach.

Thanks for the replies guys. After reading the first couple of threads i really was considering leaving our pet, but we wouldve had to put him in a rescue centre because we dont know anyone who wouldve taken him. However, after reading Tamara's thread im not so worried now, and will definately be taking him.
