A question to all fellow PIA members.

Do any of you suffer from "junk emails" since you have been on PIA? I know, like me, a few people i have spoken to suffer from numerous emails offering everything from watches, pills and, well lets just say something gaining in size!! I have in the past dropped Tim an email about it and he seemed to think not linked.

Lucky enough i have a Mailwash programme that lets me filter out the junk before opening.

Just seems strange that they started after joining and if it is a common problem i can speak to Tim to see if anything can be done.

Before the comments come back about visiting "other inappropriate sites" the answer is no!!:biglaugh:

Hi Ian,

I can assure you that email addresses are perfectly safe. The only way anyone can get hold of thewm would be to have the administrator login to PomsInAdelaide - (I am the only one with this right) - So to answer your question most definitely not!

It is very easy for folk to get (Or harvest as it is known) email addresses. This can be done if you have posted you email address publically on ANY forum or webpage - or even if you have replyed or looked at previous junk mail because they can all be tracked.

There are internet robots that scour the internet that look for exactly that - email addresses on webpages for spamming. These are then recorded and used. Unfortunately is is a way of life these days.

Also remember that these spammers will send millions and millions of emails to every computer generated email address out there they can think off on the off chance that an email address will be real, so there is always a chance that this can happen.

I for one get approximately 300 - 400 junk emails per day but luckily enough the spam filter deals with the majority but not always.

I get very little spam, just 1 or 2 a day, being on pia has not changed things. I don't have a webpage so maybe this helps??????????.

(PS could you pm me the one about gaining in size);)

Hi

Yes we too have suddenly started to receive these e mails. I must say Phil is relived to hear its a common problem he was beginning to get a little paranoid about his 'size' being questioned Ha Ha and the offer of various pills
