Officially a Permenant Resident!!

Well after almost 3 years of worry, stress, heartache and near mental meltdown we have finally validated our permenant visas and are home in Adelaide!!!!

I have to say though that even this wasn't without its dramas! We had to be interviewed by immigration upon our departure from Australia as little Isla didn't hold a valid visa in her new UK passport. Being only a few months old and born in Aus, we were told not to apply for a temp visa for her as she would be granted a PR one. But no, immigration wanted to know everything about her, where she was born, why we were leaving, why she didn't have a visa etc etc. We felt like we were watching that programme on tv about customs lol! Eventually they let us go, but we ended up having to run for the plane as we had been so long. We had a 2 week holiday in Fiji.

Rich went off to the High commission in Suva, with all our passports, was made to wait outside for ages, then was led without being spoken to by an armed guard into a large room full of visa hopefuls and locked in. He had his phone and wallet removed also. He said it was really not a nice experience and i'm glad we made the decision not to take the children there. Luckily he didn't have to wait very long until he was called up and things went smoothly from there and we had the visa evidenced.

We arrived back into Australia via Brisbane and of course we were anxious as we are state sponsored for SA, but we had no problems with immigration on the way back in and the officer congratualted us and welcomed us to Australia!!! Our visa are now activated and the stamp of approval firmly seated in our passports!!

    15 months til citizenship!!!!

Congratulations to you all! Had to smile - probably my sick mind but I had images of them taking Isla off on her own into an interrogation room and trying to get her to tell all on your departure! "She's not sayin' anyfing, Gov! Just sort of gurgling...."

congratulations Julia and family very happy for you. How come you only have to wait 15mth for citizenship? is because the timeline is from when you originally arrived? Just curiousness as we have to wait fro 4yrs on our PR visa :-)

    Hi,

Great story, Must be great getting that done.

There has been quite a few long term posters on here in the last few days get a mile stone, They must be really getting things sorted over there.

This is one of the reason people come to these sites to hear of how it can turn out in the end.

    Great news.
