Rugby World Cup coming up - how popular is Rugby Union in Australia?

I see from various statistics that my favourite sport is not even in the top six most popular sports in Oz. Given that, I just wondered, as the start of the World Cup approaches, now popular is Rugby Union these days?

NSW and Queensland are the Union codes but this is behind the League code.

Yeah, what was said above. Union is played NSW and QLD mainly. Its amazing they turned out a cup winning team twice from such a small pool of players . Impressive stuff. Imagine if more of Aus got in on it.

You can see it on TV and that though. Just might need a pay per view or cable to do so.

Wikipedia has some info on TV screening and other stuff

Also, it is growing in popularity here for players - I know there is an English guy who set up and ran a club here in the North East of Adelaide, and I believe there is now a local junior league for both boys and girls.

Its a QLD sport. Stevo NSW is League prmarily.

As for the game here, it is growing but still VERY MUCH a minority sport, and no live FTA coverage of domestic matches.

there are a few RUFC scattered around Adelaide, notably The Onkas and Brighton......

We go to watch the Onkas play every now and again, they have had a very poor season this year having lost some players who have gone interstate.

Its a good arvo, a few beers and watch some grass roots Rugby Union...

Ae there are any pubs that are going show the matches? I know that the Aberdeen pub on Pultney is a bit of a 'rugby' pub, but anyone know of any places in and around Glenelg that will show games?
