Lemon and Lime trees

    Recommended Posts

Hello, can anyone suggest a good nursery for buying small Lemon and Lime trees from, now we have settled in our rental we would like to start growing one of each in containers and have our own fruits. Then we we do finally move in a couple of years they can come with us.

Any help be appreciated, if they are from the south bonus, however anywhere will be good

    Cheers

We tried growing citrusses (citrii?) in pots but with the temps in the summer unless you are really, really good about keeping them watered, it is a major struggle. None of ours fruited when in pots, but since we have planted them out (lemon, lime and mandarin) they have been much happier. It's supposed to be good for them if you wee on them too!! I only know good nurseries in the north - Virginia Nursery up near Angle Vale is absolutely fantastic, best range, best prices and nice cafe, but only any good if you're driving up that way. Peaches, cherries and nectarines seem to do well too - those are next on my wish list!

Thank you Dianne, especially with the secret growing tips, I think we will have to have have a drive up and have a look, we are thinking about growing a few herbs too, just to our fingers green again,

    Cheers

Without getting technical on such a delicate subject, it's only good for them to have men's wee, not women's!

Well without putting images in your mind that will be hard to get out, it's also a lot easier for the man of the house to do this particular duty!

Isn't it the urea (?) though that the citrus benefits from? most - ok some - citrus fertilisers seems to list this as the key ingredient....

the best nursery in the North by far, for info, personalised and expertise is newmans nursery, on North East Road at Tea Tree Gully, well just up the road from TTG about 1 click on the LHS. They are not the cheapest, but go for the drive, get the info, have a Devonshire Tea in their cafe, drive back down the hill and pop into the British Pub, Fox and Firkin.

Lime and Lemons in pots can be hard to grow, don't overwater and don't overfeed, but don't underwater or underfeed either, the best type would be 'Meyer'.

Remember that citrus love a hot sunny spot. Watch for pests and diseases because they can be prone to scale and citrus leaf minor.

Apparently women's pee contains something that doesn't agree with them (burns them in the same way as manure that isn't well rotted does to some roots). Anyway, that's probably enough detail on that particular subject!
