We are hopefully moving to Adelaide July this year, and will be starting off living in Sellicks Beach. I am excited as well as very nervous about the move as I will be leaving some great mates behind. Just wondering if anyone on here lives near Sellicks Beach so that when we arrive we could meet up.

Hi Nicky,

 

We have just arrived in Adelaide (3 weeks nearly) and i, like you, was worried as I have left some great mates behind. At the moment we are loving it, driving around getting to know places. We live in the Woodcroft area but when you arrive you will realise that nowhere is that far from each other in Adelaide. Everyone seems friendly and happy to help. Keep in touch.

Thanks for the reply, did you have jobs to go to, if not want is the work situation like, think I am panicking but at the moment I seem to be worrying about silly things, think emigrating might be slowing turning me crazy.

im sure you are not the first to start panicking and you sure wont be the last!

We are due out in June, (house sale permitting) and everyday we sit here and think about jobs, schools, costs etc etc. We have already got the house sorted to start further north in Andrews Farm. At first we panicked that no one seems to chat on here much about looking further North of CBD but everyone talks of south. We started to think why and what???? After going on reccie we came away more than happy knowing when we get there we will know where our bed will be and are more than happy to start there and hopefully settle in.

 

We have found chatting on here to be great for answering questions and fears but we are under no illusions what to expect and are glad we did the reccie. We know it aint "cheaper" and know it is not "paradise" but we loved it and cant wait to get there.

 

Where abouts in Sellicks Beach you moving too? Is it a new build or an existing house.

 

dont worry, just be open minded and be prepared to work at it.

Thanks for the reply. We are in the process of having a house built in Sellicks Beach, should be getting some progress photos soon, so we can see what we have spent our money on. We had sold our house here and wanted to get on the property market in Oz before we were outpriced. We have decided that if Sellicks Beach is not for us then we can always rent it out and buy elsewhere. Not the best policy,but hey lifes a gamble:chatterbox:

 

Just waiting for our visa and then we can be off, providing the house is built!!!

would it be by chance one of the Devine homes? Sounds like a very similar process to ours. We are also just waiting on confirmation of the finishing of the house and some update photos.

 

sounds like you have the same attitude and thoughts as us, we will start in Andrews farm and see what happens. Then move on and re rent it out to hopefully generate some rental income

How have you found the process of buying from here? We have found things very simple and straight forward. On the "estate" where ours is located we found it hard to find 2 houses exactly the same during our reccie so the houses are very individual and not like the uk a big long row of boxes!

We went into the show homes on the Lakeside Estate and, i know the show homes are always ftted out to give a visual appearance with higher ceilings etc the standard in them and also in the part built shells we walked round was very good (compared to what i have to walk round each day here, standard just as good or better) The finsh we saw and also the pictures we have had to date have been very good. We are very impressed with what has been done and like you we cannot wait to get the update pictures and of course arrive there. It's Kath and Will here, we are in London at the moment but have just begun the process of buying a devine home in Sellicks Beach - we went there back in April - Kath is from adelaide anyway - so we stayed with some mates near Aldinga and just loved the place. Just woke up one morning three minutes from the beach and thought - it has to be done!

 

Be interesting to know what you think of the area and how you get on. Hopefully we will be out there in 2009. Should catch up for a beer on the beach!

Hello!

Nice to hear from you! Apparently our contract for our house and land package is being sent to us this week and the building begins this august to be finished early 09. So is your house part of the new Ocean View developement there? I hear some other people on this site have built in Sellicks Beach, maybe there will be lots more English people there! I wish we were leaving this June! I think next year we will be there around sep. Please keep us posted on what it is like when you return. I am actually from Adelaide but Will is English and i have been here for about 6.5. years so moving to Sellicks is going to be a real sea change for me as I grew up in the Northern Suburbs of Adelaide, so Will is not the only person going into unknown territory! We are really excited about it though. If you get stuck and need any advice re Adelaide, please ask me as although I have not lived there for the past 6.5 years it is my home town and I go back each year, so it is my home if you know what i mean,

Thanks for the message, our house we believe is finished, and yes we have bought on the Ocean View Development, ours is on Oriana Drive. Just out of interest what is the travel time from the city? have been getting various different times.

Yes we have only got 9 days left in the UK, container is in Singapore, but is not due to reach Adelaide until 27 June, then hopefully furniture will be delivered around 10 July, we have applied for QAA housing and have been successful its in a place called Seacliff which we will use until our furniture arrives.

From Sellicks Beach to the city, outside of rush hour, will be just over an hour drive.In rush hour not sure. I live 20/25 mins from city outside rush hour but it can take me an hour if I hit the traffic wrong.
