Where should we stay on our reccie?

    Hello all!

First timers here, but feel at home already - lots of really useful posts and helpful comments.

We've applied for a 475 for South Australia and we're heading for Adelaide in April.

Got 11 nights to play with in Adelaide. Have already booked a few nights at the Majestic but we're looking for some ideas on where else we should bunk down during our trip.

The OH is really keen to spend a bit of time by the beach (Glenelg seems the obvious) and we'd both like to go and see the winelands.

However we're being realistic and know we should be spending as much time as possible researching for our future life in the city. We don't have kids so are pretty sure we'll be renting in the city centre or the 'burbs when we get our visa (gotta be optimistic!!!).

So - without thinking beach/wine - where would you recommend we stay in or around Adelaide to get the best possible, non-holidayish and realistic feel for the place?

    Thanks MUCH!

We stayed at in Huntfield Heights. Sarah and Keith are great, the house was new and clean, 10 minutes from the beach, 30 minutes to downtown on the expressway (not during rush hour).

    Take a look at

This will give you feel of rental properties available in the area. And to the best of my knowledge, these properties are all near the southern wineries, McLaren Vale.

Having a reccie is an opportunity to get some serious information so that the move is not so stressful when you come. Try to take the time to look around suburbs, north and south.

Glenelg is a nice beach but by no means the only one - try Port Noarlunga South, Brighton, Aldinga as well for some. Aldinga, Moana, Seaford beaches are probably nearest to McLaren Vale area.

However, if you would rather be nearer the city, see what is available in Unley Road area, very nice. Goodwood isn't quite as nice as Unley Road but still ok. We stayed in Everard Park when we first got here - don't go there :nah:. To the north Port Adelaide is receiving some investment and you could always take a look around Mawson Lakes, Henley Beach, West Lakes etc.

    Enjoy yourself
