IELTS Results and state sponsorship

We are planning to submit an EOI, which will hopefully lead to a state sponsored visa. I have just got my IELTS Test results, which were:

Listening:

    9.0

Reading:

    6.5

Writing:

    8.5

Speaking:

    9.0

Overall:

    8.5

I am sort of happy with the results but I am now wondering if the reading score will be a problem. On the EIO it stated my language ability was 6.5, although the overall score from IELTS is 8.5.

I am wondering should I retake the exam just for that one reading score? Or should I just submit the EOI with the scores above?

The lowest score is considered not the overall meaning your mark will be considered as 6.5.

I was required to get 7.0 for 10 points with 8.0 giving 20 points.

    Hi Barham

I believe that your current IELTS score would not entitle you to claim any extra points for English language ability *for the purpose of skilled migration to Australia.* I believe that you would need to be able to show a score of at least 7.0 in each of the 4 modules and preferably 8.0 or above in each of the 4 modules in order for your IELTS to have any positive impact on your overall points score.

I've put one phrase between the * * symbols. Different countries use the IELTS in different ways for different purposes, obviously.

    Cheers

    Gill
