    Hi,

can anyone tell me why you can't use soft solder for copper pipe like you do in the UK? Is there a specific reason or do the Ozzys just prefer to use oxy/acetylene?

    thanks

Hi Northy, I spoke to a plumbing training accessor today and asked him the same question. He said it's because of the water over here, apparently it has stuff in it that corrodes the soft solder. not sure how it can do that and be safe for drinking but oh well, hope this helps.

    Hi Northy,

I think as well the water pressure is a lot higher here in adelaide and soft solder fittings wouldnt hold the pressure.

They use Oxy/acetylene as it has a lot greater heat input for silver brazing.
