IIRC within Aus tends to be more expensive than heading to NZ or Japan (where apparently the ski slopes are well run, no queues at ski lifts and so on).

Threadbo tends to spring to mind as a popular place - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thredbo

There are a number of other resorts though

I'd look at NZ also and compare prices.

Found a few packages on here http://www.skitravelcompany.com.au/ski-deals Generally I've found in the past that the concept of a package (flights, transfers, accommodation, ski hire and lift pass) is a pretty unknown one here in Aus (I nearly rang up the radio yesterday to ask an 'expert' they had on if this was really the case!) Lots of people seem to drive, rather than fly to the resorts. NZ is quite good value, and Japan obviously has their ski season in our summer so I know a few people who have done Christmas skiing holidays there. Keep us posted how you get on, I'd be interested to hear.

Hiya - Queenstown in NZ is really popular and not too expensive in July it's a 4 hour flight to Auckland and then on to Queenstown it's got good snow and loads for families. To be honest it is prob easier to do that than getting to thredbo and more chance of decent snow whichever week you pick. Good luck with whatever you decide
