We (myself my husband and our daughter) moved to Adelaide 6 years ago from Didcot, Oxfordshire. We are having a great time and settled in really quickly. Am happy to be asked any questions and meet up with anyone new who would like to chat. We live near the Marion Shopping Centre.

    Cheers

    Hi Sarah:

What a happy topic! I don't have any questions, chook, but I would like to say your post has given me a lift! I'm really happy you're all settled in Adelaide and feeling so positive about living here. Know what you mean. We love it too. bhx

    Hi Sarah,

My husband and I are flying out to Adelaide to validate our S.A state sponsored 176 visas at the weekend (27th April)with a view to moving out in the Spring of 2014. We have one week renting an apartment in Adelaide's northern suburbs and would welcome a chat perhaps over a coffee whilst we are out there.

Let us know (we land 29th and may need a day to recover from the flight)

Drop us a PM and we can exchange contact details.

    Thanks

    Angie

    Hi Sarah

I will be coming out late July, my wife and daughter will be following early September. My daughter will be 5 then and ready to start term 4, can you recommend a school as that is one of the areas we've been looking at.

    Many thanks

My daughter went to Marion Primary it is very small but she had a great time and was able to ride safely to school (without crossing any major roads). We looked at Warradale Primary but I didn't like the Principle at the time very nice school though. Other Primary schools in the area like Brighton only take children if they are in the zone (catchment area). It is worth arranging to visit any you are interested in they are all very welcoming and will give you the tour. We went to about 10 in our first week and then chose based on the visits and the location of the house we managed to get. I really liked Glenelg too but we didn't find a house in that area in the end. The other draw in this area is Brighton Secondary School which is where my daughter now goes, it is very well respected and gives the private schools a run for their money with the results they achieve. We love Oaklands Park and Marion lots to do and easy to get places with the bus and train stations as well as shopping really close. If you were looking a little further inland I teach instrumental music at Colonel Light Gardens which is also lovely school. Hope you find somewhere you like.

    Hi

I agree great post, nice to hear people are doing well and a big thank for offering advice.

Myself (Adlyn), man (Russ), and two boys Lewis(13) and Evan (4) are moving to Adelaide in July, soooo excited.

We were looking at Brighton area because of the schools but have been told child needs to be musical or be keen on volley ball, so have decided on Henley as our |Lewis is keen on all sports especially football any one know much about the area, schools etc....

Its hard to decide where to go until you are there and get a feel for the suburbs I guess..... I will be working 3km east of the CBD.

We are also looking for short term furnished rental near Henley recommendations would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

Adlyn - Henley High has a specialist scoccer programme and is supposed to be a good school. Our children are currently at Henley Beach Primary and we're hoping to be able to send our eldest to Henley High next year (she's Year 7 at the moment) but we're just on the wrong side of Tapleys Hill Road to be in the catchement, so it's a matter of applying and fingers crossed I think.

I will be sending my youngest to Henley Primary do you feel its a good school ? I have emailed the principal and had a very speedy reply but didnt answer my main questions lol

My son cant start primary until 16th October because he is not 5 until 21 August, do you know of any good kindergartens?

And do we need to live in catchment area to attend the primary?

    Fingers crossed for you too.
