Please bare with me......

Hey guys dont normally push to much for peoples opinions, on suburbs or schools etc. But......

It looks like a possibility my mum and 9 yr old sister may be able to come with us after all, if she can get a job sponsor there is no reason why not..as unbeknown to us her occupation is on the skills list, so her age (50) isnt neccessarily a prob.

Any way we have had a general idea on some places where we might want to settle, How ever my Mum doesnt drive (she cant see well enough) and is on her own with my sister. So we need to be close by!!

We need to be looking at areas that are self sufficient but still with good links to city and sea!! Excellent schools that are reachable if i cant drive her!!And on a budget!!!

(A place with a 2 bed granny annex would be fine, but i think we're gonna be out of luck so we will be looking for a 2-3 bed for mum, and 4 bed place for us (renting)....and to my mums requirments She is not livin in a tin hut!!! lol)

Any way waffling, its the surburbs with there own shops and restaurants, prefably care homes for her work to start with, we would like to start a business at some point, so a place that can grow!!

Am i crazy and asking to much?? i'm getting there convincing her to give it a go, i just need a bit of help!

It's possible to live in the inner suburbs without being able to drive. Look at suburbs like Linden Park, Parkside, Magill, Unley for your mother. They all have excellent primary schools, leading on to really good High schools. These suburbs all have their shopping hub within walkable distance and there are nursing homes sprinkled through them. It is pricier to buy in these suburbs but rentals are only alittle more unless you look at executive rentals. There are also lots of smaller 2 storey townhouses sprinkled through these suburbs that are good to rent or are cheaper than traditional house on block.

Another place to look would be around Glenelg or Brighton areas, quite a few nursing homes, choice of schools and good transport to shops.

The Eastern suburbs are good because each suburb has major bus routes going down the main roads between them. I'm not sure whether your mother would be buying or renting.

Thank you so much, Mum will be renting too!!

Sadly a very long story but she lost 80% of her equity due to my father.. (she'd left him 13 yrs prior!!) on her house that he had never set foot in, yet the law is all for bad guy isnt it!! :realmad: Not for the hard working folk!!

I think she'd be looking at the lower end of the scale, like $200- $250 a week, may be 3 beds so she can get a astudent or something. we are hoping to get a 4 bed with pool for $400 a wk (+/-) do think that they are realastic??

Also to pick you brain further, do you know if Mum willl get single parent help or something when she is Perm Res??

Oh yeah when you become a perm res you are entitled to all benefits. She would get familytax benefit for your sister, which goes up the less the parent earns. There are allowances for sole parents, but I can't remember them. Basically if you are a perm res then you get anything you are entitled to and it's worked out on what you earn.

Hope this helps

Some are cheap cos they're really scabby too!! lol

God i'd be embarrassed to rent some out let alone live in em!!

Mark and i will probably get there first, so then we can find something for her in the same area but its all good to convince her to join us!!;)and i dont want to move the kids to often!!

Seaford seems like a good option, and reynella, and Blackwood.
