Dog Parks in Adelaide

Holdfast Bay councillors voted last month to conduct a feasibility study into converting the southwest corner of Dulcie Perry Park into a dog park.

The 1200sq m park will feature drinking fountains and new landscaping. Dog play equipment is also being considered.

Hove resident Anthony Scardigno was looking forward to visiting the Cecelia St park with his pets, Sammy and Lilah.

"We've got all these little parks not really being used," Mr Scardigno said.

"It doesn't have to be the whole park.

"There's not much infrastructure required; you just need fencing, a safety gate, a couple of bins and bags and a chair or two. It's a great way to bring the community together and it will allow dogs to socialise."

Mr Scardigno said the area needed more dog-friendly spaces.

"You can't always let your dogs off leashes on beaches. You can try to train them but some dogs just run off and don't come back.''

The project would be funded from the 2013/14 and 2014/15 budgets.

There is an excellent dog park in Hazelmere Road Glengowrie. It is constantly in use and is an excellent way to exercise both you and your dog, and meet other dog lovers.

For those of you living down south, try the Wilfred Taylor Reserve on the corner of States and Gulfview Roads. It has dog training school, and lovely long walks including dog trail with tunnels and jumps etc. Also there are the mini railways, r/c car racing track and archery club. Backing onto it there are netball, basket ball table-tennis football and rugby clubs. If you haven't visited it before, just go for a looksee. Take a picnic and cook on the bbq's provided. Need to gether there early on a fine day but. It's very popular.
