White Card (Tradesman - Welder)

    Recommended Posts

I understand that working in the construction industry you are a skilled trades person that before setting foot on site you will need to ensure you are aware of the occupational health and safety requirements and complete a white card training course.

Please could someone recommend anywhere to do the course, any idea on the costs and if an employer requests a white card do I have to purchase it or do they sort it as part of your induction.

    Please advise

    Hi Evojoan,

It would be best to have your white card when applying for jobs it does make things a lot easier for the employer. You can do this course instantly on line for less than $100 and is all simple and easy nothing to worry about, best wait until you arrive in OZ though as you will need an OZ address, try having a go (made-up name and address) to see what its all about and if you have any further questions then come back onto this forum.

    Good luck

I would NOT recommend doing your white card online, some companies will not accept these. There was a job advert the other week in the paper for a large well known company in Adelaide that clearly stated in their advert that online versions would not be accepted.

I have just used the Advanced Search feature on this website and came across this thread which might be useful to read...

The idea of the white card was that it formed part of the 'National Harmonisation' so that it did away with the fragmented state/terittory cards which were not generably transferable over borders would be accepted. It would appear now that in SA particulary that a few companies and it is company driven and not Government, are not accepting online cards. Queensland (where I am normally based), NSW and WA, are quite happy to accept them and have given approval to registered trainers to do so. what does that make of the so called National Harmonisation? Laughable!!

So I would agree with other comments that for SA it would be best to sit on a course once you arrive. There are many training providors can be found online, with plenty of dates always available, so booking a convienient date would not be a problem. Again the content of the course is relatively simple and easy and you will go away thinking how did that take 6hrs instead of 6min!! but it is one of those things we have to do.

    Good luck
