Adelaide Oval to Host Cricket World Cup 2015

ADELAIDE will host a blockbuster limited overs cricket match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015. A quarter final involving Australia is also on the cards - assuming the hosts make it that far into the tournament.

India and Pakistan will face off at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, February 16, in what will be India's opening game of the World Cup.

The last time the two sides met was during the ICC Champions Trophy in England in June, a match that drew an estimated international viewing audience of one billion people.

Tickets to the match in Birmingham were sold out in under three hours.

The schedule, announced today, guarantees Adelaide will host three warm-up matches, three pool games and a quarter final featuring Australia should they make the knockout stage.

Premier Jay Weatherill said the event was a perfect opportunity to showcase the city and state to a world audience.

"The Cricket World Cup is considered to be the third-biggest sporting event in the world behind the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup," Mr Weatherill said.

SA Tourism have also recruited the Barmy Army trumpeter (Billy Cooper) to be an ambassador for Adelaide, wearing t-shirts promoting the city and state etc at the Ashes games (those he's allowed into anyway) which I think is a great move.

I still need a couple of tickets to the Adelaide Ashes game in December by the way, if anyone has any spare they'd like to sell!
