Government House Open Day - Sunday 17-11

Governor's house is having an open day tomorrow from 10am to 4.00pm for anyone interested. Free with optional gold coin donation. Corner of North Terrace and King William Road, Adelaide.

 

The House was built in 1839-40 as the home and office of the Governor of South Australia and for providing

Vice Regal hospitality, and is still used for these purposes.

Come see:

 

• Specially set up displays and memorabilia of historic significance
  
• The State dining table set with silver and crystal for a formal dinner
  
• South Australian paintings on loan from the Art Gallery of South Australia
  
• Where a police inspector was murdered in 1862.
  

Staff and friends of Government House available as in-House guides.

Garden tours will be provided by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Unley Concert Band and Wilderness School.

Members of the Victoriana Society will be dressed in period costume.

Step inside a replica Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft.

Talk with RFDS crews at interactive displays.

Face painting and colouring-in competitions for children.

BBQ and refreshments will be available for purchase (proceeds benefit everyday work of the RFDS).
