I am happy to say hello to the poms in adelaide community. Myself and my girlfriend have recently been granted our visas to live and work in Australia permanently. We are currently in the process of looking and applying for jobs before we hop on the plane. My sister already lives over in Adelaide in Willunga. We are hoping that we may get the opportunity to network and meet some new friends. Thanks for having us!

You will likely find it very hard applying for jobs while not in the country, but at least you might be able to arrange some meetings for when you arrive.

Agree with Blossom, you may find it hard to secure a job unless you are in Aus. You may be able to but a lot of trades/professions have a competitive local market to compete in and being overseas you'd probably not get much of a look in.

I reckon Blossom and Snifter are right, it might be hard to actually land a job before you get here as there is a lot of competition for most jobs.

 

So...could you use your sister's address? Could she perhaps register an email address in your name so your email address places you here...although saying that, we use a hotmail one and that has no indication that it's in Australia!

 

A different thread on here seemed to indicate that living way out in Willunga might make it harder for you to get CBD / north Adelaide jobs? I am no expert but Jessica Berry (on here!) is and she seemed to agree so perhaps it's something you could bear in mind? Or simply not put an address on your resumé at all and use an obviously Australian email?

 

Of course, it could all go wrong if they then ask you to pop in for an interview!

Thanks for the advice everybody. In reference to the Watkins family, before my sister moved to Willunga she lived on Aldinga beach for two years and I visited her there, I loved how close it was to the beach! I can't recall the exact street name, but literally at the bottom of the road was the scrub! I would of liked to of rented in that area but think we may struggle as we are bringing are baby with us - our 2 year old dog!

Oh we love Aldinga Beach we are 3 streets back from the beach just a 5 minute walk which is great for our 2 sons and we will be adding to the family with a furry son or daughter just as soon as we can find the right breeder! I am sure there are plenty of places to rent that will accept pets, just tricky for work though as both my husband and I are struggling to secure anything regular and we have been here since July. Good luck may see you on the beach X

Willunga is a great place to live

I've got to agree with the above about jobs before you get here, hubby applied for various jobs before we got here and even with flights booked and a definite date of arrival we had no response from any of them.
