Registering a kindergarten

Hi

 

We are relocating from Melbourne to Adelaide in July and just wondered how you go about registering for year 4 kinder to start 2015. Here in Melbourne you register your top three choices with the local council you reside in up to 18 months before the start date, is this the same for SA and are places very competative? (Year three kinder is arranged direct with the kinder, is that the same in SA too?)

I don't think it is that difficult here. Our son went to 3 different kindies as we moved around a bit and each time we just contacted the kindergarten head directly, had a chat, booked him in and he started. I have never heard of having to book in ahead to obtain a place, but other members may have other experiences.

 

A friend in Melbourne has not been able to return to work 10mths after having her baby as she can't get him booked into childcare, so it seems to be tougher there. I haven't heard of that happening here.

Yep, same as Howde. When we arrived we went into the local kindy to speak to them, filled out the forms and he started the next day. No hassle at all
