Council Tax and Water Rates included in Rent??

    Recommended Posts

    Hi all,

I think I have read somewhere before (but I'm not sure) are council tax and water rates included in the weekly rental amount for a property?

Council tax always is. Water rates normally only part is included. It used to be standard to include it all but this seems to have changed the last few years. Our last quarter water usage was less than $40.

When we rented we had to pay water supply and usage charges but not sewerage and any levies. As blossom said it varies from place to place, but I think there are some rules on what costs can be passed on and what cannot be passed on.

We have had 3 rentals and have paid for water supply and all usage in all of them. Friends of ours only pay above X amount of usage but have had a letter this week stating that they will be changing it to them paying for all supply and usage to bring them into line with all the agent's other properties.

I would go on the assumption that you will be paying all supply and usage and anything less would be a bonus.
