190 Visa. What next?!!

Hello all,

Now I know that seems like an odd question, but we are so close to the end of the visa process, I am daring to finally start tentatively planning our move to Adelaide! We lodged our visa application last week after getting the state sponsorship agreement in record time and we are hoping that is a sign of things to come. Our migration agent seems to think we should be all done and visa granted around October time.

so I wanted to ask all you good people out there, essentially what your next move was?! We've been so used to being told what we needed to do next since we started this journey in January, that I'm not sure we know what to do once we are on our own!!

Am I right in thinking that you need to make an entry into Oz within a few months of getting your visa to 'activate' it, then you have a year or so to make the move? I'm not sure where I read that, but if anyone out there can tell us that would be great.

of course, we need to do a recce which we will probably do To activate the visa, so my next question (and my last for a Friday night, for now anyway!) is any good information on cheap flights/good places to stopover etc.our nearest airports are gatwick and heathrow if that helps ?

this might be the start of quite a few questions from me so good to meet you all!!

Usually the first entry is dated 12 months from the oldest date of medicals or police checks. So if you have police check dated August 2014, you would need to make first entry by August 2014.

You do not need to move permanently by this date, the visa allows for travel in and out of Australia for 5 years from date of grant. After this you can remain in Aus, but if you want to travel abroad you will need a resident return visa or citizenship.

Out of interest, just wondering why you say you need to do a reccie, rather than just moving over here? Some come on a reccie, others don't.

We've never been to adelaide before Jessica, we want to satisfy ourselves that we are doing the right thing before we make the big move.

Plus, we would like to suss out jobs and potential rentals when we are there and the answers to those questions will decide our ultimate leaving date.

Just our preference really!
