What about Nairne? A few listed there, some will consider pets and within your budget.

I found a few for under $400 in Bridgewater area too.

Also if you put in say Aberfoyle Park to Mount Barker it comes in at 36 minutes/37km. Lots to rent there for $300-380

Also look at Clarendon, Kangarilla and Meadows.

Found this one in Meadows, will go quick I would think, its pet friendly. 20-25 minute drive to Mount Barker or thereabouts.

My daughter has rented a couple of places which were advertised as 'No pets'.

She asked for permission to keep a rabbit, then a couple of cats, plus a dog (her friend's) and each time, in both places, it was allowed.

IDK if this is always the case, but she was told that some people don't want to advertise as suitable for pets because they would prefer an element of choice?

Anyhow, worth the question...then get it in writing!

Oh, and welcome to South Australia

Hi we are having exactly the same problem!!!

If you go up to $500 a week you will get more choice, however, the competition is strong and I have found that the estate agents are leaving properties on the internet when they are already booked out, plus they seem to be quite deceptive with the pictures. Snakes in the grass the lot of them....We even got shown a huge place that was like a community centre, In The Dark, it had no electricity and holes in the walls and the agent used her mobile phone light to show us round!!!! She then had the audacity to tell us to fill in an application form quickly!!! Needless to say we went straight to a bottle shop on the way back to our cold, unfriendly hut which is costing us $125 a night. We are having an awful time looking for somewhere to rent, so I am now thinking about buying a camper van and living in that for a bit.

What areas are you looking in? There are plenty of nice houses out there for less than $500 but what you can find will depend on the area you are looking at. We rented a lovely 3 bed place in Rostrevor for $420 two years ago after an open where my OH was the only one there and when we moved out in January they were advertising it for the same amount. There are some shocking places as well though.

Have you considered a caravan park for now? They have units, and in winter (now) would be a better cheaper option.

Hi Diane i was about to come back to you but being as the place we are staying in had no internet for the last 5 days it was a little hard to respond despite working everyday and having no access to the net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks anyway. Thanks to everyone who responded positively this is what makes me stop posting on forums like this! I saw a couple of comments prior to us having no internet. We have viewed many properties and have had a terrible week regarding finding somewhere to live and homesickness etc, many were inhabitable. We have viewed properties that we wouldn't house a filthy animal in. Houses that have been empty for weeks and are ideal we have put applications in, we have excellent references, full time work the both of us, and have savings, however for some bizarre reason even after checking with our employer etc we still hear nothing, the property is still on the market. Its quite bizzare. We found pout today we have been accepted on a house in Ascot park. Not the best house in the world but its a base and we cant wait to move in and try and make a home as were over the whole suitcase thing. Kathcats i really feel for you. Have you looked on air bnb this is how we are staying with people at the moment. We have been to the bottle shop too, many tears, sleepless nights, no routine. Its very hard when you have no one but each other. My cats are in a cattery also the one being very old and not good health. I have cried the whole day after seeing them. However i believe this is temporary and things will get better. If you need somewhere to stay let us know we sign for our house on the 25th July we would be happy to help. You may have to get an airbed lol. Thanks again for the advice x

Sounds like you are getting somewhere, I do wonder though why you want to commute so far when there are nice places nearer. Brand new properties for $300 for example. Not sure what you have against Mount Barker or surrounding towns like Littlehampton and Nairne, as there seems to be plenty of properties around there. We lived in Mount Barker for a while but are now living nearere the city for work.

i guess at least you will be going against the flow of commuter traffic and be nearer the beach though.

i do hope that it all turns out OK.

By the way we bought a wireless mobile dongle when we arrived this time so we could have the net, also got it via our mobile con tracts. The dongle was really pretty cheap and worked well for the laptops.

Ah now that makes sense.

sorry it wasn't clear from the first post. Glad you are sorted and moving on.

It it can be really hard to start with and I certainly found the opens for rentals stressful as loads of people turned up, I now know that not many are serious about applying.

i hope you both settle into your new rental and the cats soon feel at home.

It will get easier once you are settled and you have your own things.
