    Where Australia's immigrants were born

This map reveals the top three birthplaces for immigrants in suburbs and towns across Australia. You can also access a map revealing birthplaces excluding English and New Zealand immigrants.

Rollover suburbs with your mouse for detailed info. Zoom and drag for a view of other cities and the nation as a whole, or click on the following links:

You can scroll around in it, zoom in, out. Not sure how old the story is, I just discovered it this morning though ;)

Very interesting... although I didn't need the map to know that I live in 'little Italy'.

There was a pamphlet from the Jehovahs Witnesses pushed under the front door yesterday - entirely written in Italian!!

Pretty accurate I'd say, interesting reading. Proves my oft-thought theory from a while ago that the further north in Britain you once lived, the further south in Adelaide you settled

What I found interesting was the actual percentages, it really paints a picture. I like being able to see the suburbs we initially considered are far less populated with English migrants (and other nationalities) and even the one we've eventually bought in has quite a lot less than the more popular English settled ones.

I really wanted to be in an area that was less settled with British migrants (I'm going native as much as possible lol and hubby being an Aussie had specific areas in his mind to avoid and to settle) and can see looking at the map we found an area with a good balance.

I showed my hubby the Adelaide map and he had me zoom in on a suburb where his parents grew up and he said there had been lots of Italians in that neighbourhood back then and its still a popular place for them to settle according to the map today.
