    Recommended Posts

We're moving to Hallett Cove and we're struggling to find a broadband supplier. We could really do with some help and advice from anyone living in this area.

    Many thanks

If they are telling you they can't supply you then your only option is Telstra. If they manage to get you on the system you can then change to another supplier.

Not entirely true. We weren't able to get broadband when we first moved in to our house. Telstra were no more help than anyone else - there were no ports and they don't have any kind of waiting list so you have to keep putting in requests with them if you want them to keep trying to get you broadband. Their customer service is so terrible that this is a real chore in itself and they don't like you making continuing requests even though you have no other option. They don't communicate very well and our last request got no response at all. We have also had problems with them continuing to bill us even though we are no longer a customer of theirs.

Options other than fixed line internet include the wifi and mobile broadband. There are a number of different companies that offer a wifi service but I don't know which ones are in your area. Most of them cover our area but because of the position of our house on the hill and the number of trees surrounding us we couldn't get a wifi connection with any of them. We ended up with Virgin Mobile mobile broadband at $40 a month for 12G.

We went with Internode for our fixed phone line in the end as they are cheaper than Telstra and have better customer service. My OH tried putting in a few requests with Telstra for broadband but they were unable to help and we stopped trying as we thought that might not be helping the problem with them continuing to bill us. He then decided to try getting a broadband connection through Internode and we finally got a connection and are now on a 100G monthly package with them.

OP it doesn't matter which company you use but if you can't get broadband because there are no ports then you need to just keeping putting in requests until you happen to get a free port or go for the wifi option.

We had a similar problem (in a different area). Telstra said they could do broadband then we moved in and couldn't get it - wham I called them they said they couldn't get it so we had to have mobile broadband. I then called optus and they have managed to supply it (not sure why telstra couldn't!). Saying that telstra were really good and allowed us to break contract on broadband, internet and Mobile as they had told us thy could supply it initially! We now have tv as well as all the rest for the same price! Worked out pretty well. Good luck ;-)

We're moving to The Cove Road.

You should be ok if it's the part from the rail bridge up to Lonsdale Road. Anything on the beach side of the bridge might be an issue, and the further you go towards Marino the more of an issue it may become.

Take a look at the roofs of neighboring properties - do they have small square antennas? If so it's probable that WiMax may be your only hope. If there are none you may be lucky with copper.
