Advice needed please

    Recommended Posts

    Hi,

Have been here since Jan 2013 (2.5yrs) and need to go home for a time. What is the ruling about how long must you be in Australia prior to citizenship application? We would like to apply for citizenship in January 2017 @ 4 years.

Plus would all the family need to be in Australia for that time?

    Can you help please?

    Cheers

No more than 12 months in total in the four years, and less than 90 days out in the 12 months prior to applying. Each adult must qualify in their own right, children under 16 are simply included and do not need to satisfy the criteria.

did you validate the visas before coming out permanently, if so you might be able to apply sooner. Make sure your visas are still valid for travel as this expires 5 years after grant.

So long as you are back living in Aus before your PR lapses you'll be fine then to remain as a PR and clock up the time needed to then apply for citizenship later on when you have met the requirements. Rammygirl explains in her reply as to what is required time wise to apply for citizenship.
