Hi everyone,

we have been visiting this site for a couple of weeks now, so its time we said hello. We are at the start of the process and have decided not to use an agent (trying to save money for a recci) so any help and advice would be much appreciated. We initially considered Melbourne but as we are not really big city people (rural Lancashire) we decided Adelaide may suit us better.

Anyway, please drop us a line.

Bye.

Hello and welcome to PIA. We ddn't use an agent and everything turned out good for us. Hopefully it'll be the same for you guys. We hope to fly out for good in about 6/7 weeks but got lots to do before that so we'll see.

What skills are you applying with? Its the skill assesment which is the pain and where the agent can be worth their weight in gold.

Good luck

Pete

Hi Pete,

I'm a maintenance fitter, I received my TRA acknowledgement last Sept but we suspended our application due to baby Amelia's arrival. Sounds like alls going well for you, so I'll probably be leaning on your experiences to help us through this... if you dont mind.

No worries thats what we are all here for. With a little one, its all the more reason to make the move. ;)

Hi stuart & Dawn,

It might be worth you looking at the mining sites, try BHP Billiton that is where the good money is,If you have any knowledge of working on A/C systems or chillers/Refrigeration etc pm me and i might be able to give you some contact names.

Hi Lancastrians, we live a village called Euxton in Lancashire. We had to sack our first agent but at least we had got through the TRA bit. We used another agent who were very good, called Thames Migration (based in London) but they have recently opened an office in Brisbane, for the remainder of the application and they charged £1600 for this. The forms did seem straight forward, so I am sure you will be able to complete them with no probs. It only took 10mths for that next stage before getting our VISAs. good luck. from Carole and Andrew

Hope they hand deliver the visa and escort you to your new home in Adelaide for that.:skeptical:

Yes name and shame, Migration bureau , based in London . Soon as we signed up they passed us over to someone in New Zealand still got a nice leather folder!. was quoted £2.5k to £3.5 yes had a bit of trouble with TRA , but should that have cost me another £3k ?

We presume all agents do a similar job, so even accounting for different client circumstances, why such a huge difference in costs? I think we'll press ahead on our own and if we come up against a brick wall we will then see about getting some help.

Looks like you got value for money though, what with your application being processed in only 9 months. Best of luck on the house sale, the housing market is a bit of a worry isn't it?

Thanks again for the messages of support (carole, happy feet, etc).
